Progress on the behavioral health care facility you voted for (Larimer County)
EDITOR’S NOTES: We have been keeping track of the construction and expansion of this new facility. You will find below the time line so far. The state has a dire shortage of counselors and clinics to respond to the growing substance abuse and addiction crisis. The goal is to open the Acute Center later this year. We will do a follow up article when that happens.

2018 – Voters Approve Facility
In the fall of 2018, Larimer County voters overwhelmingly approved funding through a sales and use tax increase to fund a new regional behavioral health facility. This will give residents a local community facility to go to for their needs.
2022 – Construction started and name chosen
The new behavioral health facility will be called Larimer County Behavioral Health Services at Longview. The name Longview is both a nod to the nearby Long View Farm Open Space, as well as a symbol of how the patients will be looking at their journey of treatment and the recovery process.
2023 – Operational Agreement approved
Summit Stone Health partners is one of the region’s largest behavioral health care employers and community mental health centers. An operational agreement with Summit Stone for the new county-owned behavioral health facility, Acute Care, was presented to the Larimer County Board of County Commissioners and approved with a 3-0 vote on June 27, 2023.
Location:
Situated on the northwest corner of Taft Hill Road and W. Trilby Road, Ft. Collins, Colorado, the 40-acre campus will house a variety of behavioral health services. The first of those services, Acute Care, will address a critical gap in available crisis services within the County. (The next building planned at the campus is Adolescent Care – another critical need in our community.)
Services Available
SummitStone Health Partners will provide a phased approach to the opening of the Acute Care facility. Upon opening, they will offer the following services available to the community:
Behavioral Health Urgent Care: Available 24/7
Care Coordination
Substance Use Treatment with Medications
Withdrawal Management
Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU)
Onsite pharmacy and lab
Future Phases of Acute Care will be based on community needs.
Short-term intensive residential treatment (IRT) – Short-term residential program for clients focused on recovery.
Opioid Treatment Program (OTP)
Behavioral Health Institute / Center of Excellence for Training and Professional Development
Expansion of existing services
Who will it serve?
This facility will serve all Larimer County community members regardless of their ability to pay. === Expected to open in fall or winter of 2023.
