Visit BoulderCountyVotes.gov for more information, and to update your voting record (eg address or name change). Lyons will have a Voting Center at the library on November 4 and 5. In Colorado you can register in person up until the day of the election.

=====OCTOBER======
Thur Oct. 28th — HISTORY OF BOULDER EXHIBIT: The Museum of Boulder‘s exhibit, On the Move: Keeping History Alive at the Museum of Boulder (1944 – 2024), celebrates the unique history of Boulder. The exhibit will feature some beloved objects, including a model of Boulder’s first schoolhouse made from the original building’s lumber, a beautiful landscape painting by early local artist JB Sturtevant, and a popular collection of barbed wire from area ranches. Additionally, original documents such as the minutes from the historical society’s first meeting and a newspaper clipping reporting on the 1958 fire that destroyed many of the Museum’s cherished items will be on display.

October 17, 7p.m., SpiritHound. Science + Spirits: High Altitude Science w/Mary Mulry When we ascend to higher altitudes, our bodies have limited means to adapt short-term to the lowered partial pressure of oxygen. Altitude sickness can ruin a good vacation or adventure. The internet is not a very reliable source of information about tips to help. Come learn about the tools to use when going up higher and the science behind them, including the truth about energy, hydration, food, sleep and alcohol in relation to high altitude. Mary C. Mulry, Ph.D. CFS, has vast industry experience spanning from conventional to specialty, with a focus on natural and organic foods, functional foods. Science + Spirits is a monthly event held periodically. Each event has a scientific theme that we base custom cocktails on and bring in educated speakers. Interesting and tasty.
October 19, LEAF’s annual RAVE to the Grave; Boogie Nightmares, Halloween costume party for adults in LaVern Johnson Park, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Purchase tickets. October 19, 8:30a.m. to 2p.m., free. at Boulder JCC, 6007 Oreg Ave. == BOULDER “AGING WITH ALTITUDE” Saturday ==The Aging at Altitude Expo will offer an abundance of tips, advice, and the latest trends in health and nutrition, financial and retirement planning, real estate – from active adult communities to assisted living facilities – home care, lifestyle, leisure, fitness, and more. October 19, 2-2:30p.m. You’re invited to the 9th annual World Singing Day Boulder this Saturday, on Pearl Street. This fun, free, public sing-along is for everyone — all ages, backgrounds and singing abilities. Lyric booklets provided. Singing Taylor Swift to the Beatles.
October 20, 5p.m., Rock Garden. Pints & Pages Book Club, a collaboration between the Lyons Community Library and The Rock Garden at A-Lodge! lively discussion and BOGO drink specials.
The title is the super spooky Bird Box by Josh Malerman. This is the final one for the season. Members will be notified of any special meetings in the winter months. REGISTER. ======= Bread and Poetry happens every other month, it has not been finalized but will happen in October at the library. (as of 9/28/24) Check library calendar for updates.
October 20-26, Longmont beers: LONGMONT has a NEW MASCOT: MONTY, celebrate with beer. == Almost a year ago, we invited the Longmont community to help us create a fun new mascot for Visit Longmont. We received over 70 creative ideas. The clear winner? Monty the Longmonster! Monty is welcoming, fun, vibrant, and delightfully quirky==== Be sure to watch for Monty during the week of October 20-26 by visiting a Longmont brewery (or a few!). Local brewers will celebrate Monty with special releases each day. And with the purchase of a special Monty brew, you’ll receive a commemorative pint glass featuring Monty (while supplies last). == Look for Monty at other community events in the near future.
October 21, 10a.m. – 2p.m., Lyons library. Vitlant BLOOD DRIVE Library – Community Room Sign up today to donate blood. Both Power Red, and Whole Blood. Sometimes you can just wait for a person to cancel their reservation, and jump into that spot, if you make a last minute decision to go.
October 21, 7p.m. Town of Lyons BOT meeting. Open to public.
October 21, 4:30p.m. Lyons mid/hi school – Booster Club meeting – Join us in the school library for our meeting. Everyone is welcome, and if you’re considering getting more involved in booster club, we’d love to see you there!
October 22, 7 – 7:40 p.m. An Addition to Oskar Blues Grill & Brew Lyons music line-up this month: The Lyons Senior High School Jazz Band.
October 23-25, Lyons Elementary School: The Book Fair. SHOPPING & VOLUNTEER link: We need you to join us in the FUN. We’re excited to share these books and the fun of reading with you. October 25, 1:30p.m. Lyons elementary school – Jogathon – Pie in the Face: The silliest event of the year! Come help us celebrate our amazing students and this year’s record-breaking Jogathon! on the upper playground (weather permitting). Schedule is as follows:
1:30 PM: Pie throwing for Pre-K through 2nd grade
2 PM: Prize announcements and raffle drawing

October 31, Halloween. — Check with your neighbors. Many streets with close homes will have Trick or Treating. Some with distant homes will have a “trunk Trick or Treat”, where candy is distributed in one place.

November 2, 6, and 8 = Local ROCKY FLATS MOVIE is now at the theater! Through compelling interviews, rare archival footage, and first-person testimonials from former workers, activists, officials, and community members, Half-Life of Memory sheds light on the hidden history of Rocky Flats. The film exposes decades of government deception, environmental destruction, and the ongoing fight for justice and long-term stewardship. Following the premiere, there will be a discussion with director Jeff Gipe, former FBI agent Jon Lipsky, former Rocky Flats worker Judy Padilla, Rocky Flats Truth Force member Chet Tchozewski, and Rocky Flats grand jury foreman Wes McKinley. November 2, 7 p.m., Longmont Museum. Day of the Dead MUSIC: Join us for an evening of live performance in celebration of Día de Muertos that will span the ages, from ancient Aztecan dance to the genre-bending rock and roll of the band iZCALLi. This annual community celebration of a centuries-old Mexican tradition has quickly become part of the cultural fabric of Longmont! Co-presented with the Longmont Multicultural Action Committee.
November 2, 3p.m. Grace Commons. Join Boulder Symphony for a Día de los Muertos Kids Concert! This upcoming Curiosity Concert—The Creative Spirit— including Beethoven’s 7th Symphony, Radiohead’s “Creep,” Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill,” Arturo Márquez’s “Dánzon No. 2,” and “La Llorona,” and more! —The program is 45 minutes long and will feature the Niwot High School Mariachi Ensemble and Longmont Youth Symphony playing side by side the Boulder Symphony for portions of the concert. We will also have a few students from Boulder Symphony Music Academy playing a mini recital in the lobby prior to the concert. There will be an instrument petting zoo for 30 minutes after the concert for kids to try some instruments, and costumes are encouraged! These concerts typically sell out each year, so get your tickets today here.

November 9, 7p.m. – 10 p.m. Old Time Square Dance at Oscar Blues. Chris Kermiet calls with the Dry Ditch Riders!! All ages welcome, no experience or partner needed, all dances taught. LYONS Quarterly ART SHOW – January, April, July, and October – sponsored by Lyons Arts & Humanities Commission — The Library art show features a solo artist. — The Town Hall features local residents’ art. Open during normal business hours.
Lyons (history) Redstone Museum = Open on weekends in May for “May Historical Preservation” Month. Open June 1 to September 29 every day 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (open at 12:30p.m. on Sundays) = 303-823-5271. In the winter, call to make an appointment for research that can’t wait till summer.
