September started the first of many “First Sundays”
Were you present at the first “FIRST SUNDAY” event in downtown Lyons this past weekend? If yes, you can brag for many months to come that you were there… as the event continues to build in experiences and popularity. The Lyons Area Chamber of Commerce created the event in order to bring more business to our downtown shops and eateries, and thereby, bringing money into our Town’s pocket to spend on continuing to make our town wonderful. Thanks to Kristin Frances, executive director, for her hard work in organizing it.
Among the events was a scavenger hunt, special menus at restaurants, costumed local actors escorted shoppers along Main Street, local poet Martin did “street poems” for passersby, live music echoed throughout town, and other kids’ activities were enjoyed.
“We had lots of downtown traffic on Sunday. I think the event was a great first effort, and look forward to next month’s event,” said owner Connie at Red Canyon Art. Also, the Dairy Bar had non-stop customers, most people licking up the ice cream cones on the 90 degree day.
If you didn’t go to the Yard Sale, you are going to be sorry, when I tell you — it consisted of 80% “mini shops” with quality items, including art, furniture, clothing and more. One vendor brought his handmade tables made from whisky barrels, and table tops made out of corks. And, some locals brought their handmade leather and jewelry goods. Only 20% consisted of individual’s “garage sale” items for sale (which were also in good condition and were fun items, like a set of furry pillows and a Star Trek game, each for under $10). It took place in the sandstone patio area of the old Diner Bar location.
Mark your calendars now for the next event! I bet there will be some Halloween-themed happenings.
