CLOTHING DRIVE FOR MIGRANTS
Laura West Neal said:
We took the donations to Lakewood at a place called Para Ti Mujer. My pickup truck was full with the sides on it probably two cords of donations. Then Becky Knapp also had a SUV full. I found out about Para Ti Mujer from the news. They were definitely boots-on-the-ground helping migrants. The place primarily spoke Spanish. They were very kind and thankful for the generosity of Lyons. I really would like to thank the town of Lyons because without everyone this wouldn’t have been possible. Lyons is truly a beautiful place to live.”
While Laura arranged with folks for her to pick up bags from local homes, the Lyons library offered to open its Community Room to the clothing drive for one day. (see photo)
Congratulations to Nancy Reckling, Volunteer of the Year for Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District, presented by Congressman Joe Neguse. Nancy is one of the founding members of the Lyons Emergency & Assistance Fund’s Community Food Pantry and has run it’s weekly operations for over 15 years. LEAF staff says: We love you, Nancy and appreciate all you have contributed to the community.
“The award was a huge surprise!” said Nancy. “It has been so satisfying to be a part of the food pantry over the past years and to see the human services that LEAF is bringing to the Lyons community.”
INCIDENTALLY: Congressman Joe Neguse visited LEAFs future home, just in time to kick-off construction of the new roof for LEAF’s new headquarters (January 2, 2024)
