Business updates, August/ September 2023
Eclectica, 418 High Street

A new shop has opened up in the old Stillwater building on High Street. Eclectica is being promoted as “your one stop shop for eclectic vintage finds, provisions, body care, aura photography, and lodging.” Hours are Wednesday thru Sunday 11a.m.-5p.m. Stop by and say “Hi” to co-owner Tim D’Antonio. See more of their clothing and product on their Instagram account. They have been open for almost three months.
Behind their shop is the entrance to their Air B N B rental place, which consists of a separate bedroom, living room, and full kitchen which opens on to a lush garden.
BamaLu, 304 Main Street

Luke Wilson and Shauna Lee’s new store BamaLu will be selling Western hats and vintage one-of-a-kind fashion pieces.; and it is still in progress. As of August, Shauna says: “We don’t have a solid opening date yet, but are getting close. We hope to open in October” They had a sneak preview over Labor Day weekend. You can go to their web site, and they have a rotating row of photos of them creating the space, with dates. Click on the most recent one to see any new photos. They use words like “funky” and “swanky” to describe their products! www.bamaluswank.com
They are located in the previous “dental office,” and the front of the store will be occupied by Ranch House West, and BamaLu will be in the back. They have their own separate entrances, plus adjoining doors, and can be open at the same or separate times. Ranch House will offer a very limited number of classic, old-style cocktails. They will have light snacks and finger foods available.
Shauna explains, “Ranch House West is considered to be more of a speakeasy that happens to have a hat shop in it. It serves liquor, and the license requires it to serve some food. It will be a great place to give the new butter I’m developing a good home. It is not a restaurant.”
U Pump It (gas station) Everyday Stores

The previous “U Pump It” gas station has new owners and is now called “Everyday Stores.” (There is another Everyday Shop in Boulder). The shop will sell food items and merchandise. They are looking for full time cashiers and managers. (Note, the Circle K gas station across the street is also looking for employees to fill cashier and manager positions). They are open in the meantime during day time hours 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Welcome to Akashdeep Virk and his family!
The last week of July, new gas pumps went in, and some new cement and asphalt were laid. There are “diesel” signs on some pumps, but no diesel gas yet; they are working on it. They also were working on getting the “debit” cards to work, and any other leftover problems from the old owners. They hope to offer hot grilled food in the open area, north of the store. (I asked… and it will not be Asian or Indian, but “American.”)
Thor’s Pet Store
The Pet Store attempted to round up people to contribute funds to turn their store into a “petting zoo” commune. But it didn’t work out, and they were moved out by the end of July. The owners said, “Jeanae of Lyons’ Lovely by Nature grooming shop at 419 Main Street bought all of our dog supplies/food. So people can shop there.” And, the owners, Laura and Thomas Rutherford, say they will be welcoming their “new addition” to their family in November. We wish them the best.
Pharr Out Design

Pharr Out Design is back on Main Street/Highway 36! They are now leasing the building previously occupied by LadyBug Antiques, and just two doors down from where Pharr Out was previously doing business. They make wood furniture, often from recycled barrels.

TID BITS:
BANK of the WEST is now BMO Bank officially. All accounts were transferred over the Labor Day weekend, and details had been mailed to customers prior to that date. — We plan to have an article about them, and introducing the new manager, in October.
FIRE DAMAGED BUILDINGS: The fire damaged buildings on Main Street will be removed in the coming weeks. One reason is that they had a lot of asbestos in them, which gives them a time limit to safely remove it. There are no specific plans yet as to what will be built on those lots. There is talk of temporarily making it a parking lot. — We will have an update on the owners and their new locations in October.
The NEW HOTEL is still “in progress.” Due to changing financial conditions and economy during and after the pandemic, the financial considerations are taking longer than expected.
