NOTE: We focus on events in Lyons. We add a few special events outside of Lyons, but, in general, do not provide a lot of details or LINKS, as they are usually big enough to be well-publicized all over the web.

August 1st – Lyons Community Foundation grants now open for application. Due September 9th.

August 10 — Boulder County COMMISSIONERS Monthly “town hall” Meeting – at East Boulder Community Center. See ARTICLE for some of the topics. Includes proposal to extend for fifteen years the existing 0.05% countywide sales and use tax for the purpose of acquiring, improving, managing and maintaining open space lands and other open space property interests.
August 10, 5-10 p.m. Can’d Aid – Oskar Blues DENVER on 1624 Market Street = Can’d Aid is turning 10! Celebrate with us with bluegrass, brews, and giving back. The concert will feature Can’d Aid TUNES Ambassadors Songs From the Road Band and Arthur Hancock ===We’ll also be kicking off the evening by building bikes, skateboards and assembling art kits for underserved Denver-area youth. August 11, 12, 13 – Boulder County Fair, Longmont fairgrounds ==The Boulder County Fair Parade will be held on Saturday, Aug 5, 2023 at 10:00 a.m., starting at Roosevelt Park, in Longmont. The Boulder County Fair theme this year is: Sew Em, Grow Em, Show Em! — Floats, Bands, Horses, and People have made this parade a fun and exciting tradition since 1869! === The FAIR will be weekend of August 10-13 at the fairgrounds off of Nelson/Hover Roads. Don’t forget to meet Jewel, the Brown Swiss cow, and her owner Brielle Upchurch, who was selected as the 2023 Royal Critter for the Boulder County Fair.
August 11, 12, 13 – Folk Fest, Planet Bluegrass. See our ARTICLE previewing the event 8/3/23. For tickets www.Bluegrass.com Some additional camping made available this week. — Lyons residents with ID can walk through the grounds.
August 12, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Lyons Library – Cat Russell holding a book signing. Ten percent of book sales support The Lyons Vet Clinic Charity Fund. All her books are on sale, and you can enter a raffle drawing for a complimentary full color hard cover of The Last Storyteller, book four in The Pearls of Wisdom Series that published only a few weeks ago.
August 12, 10 a.m. (8 hr) “Bizarre Cat Bazaar” in Nederland – Enjoy performers, dancers, tribal drumming-dancing, a cat costume contest first prize $500; and Los Cheesies headlining
August 14 – Lyons Lions Club 29th annual golf tournament being, at Lake Valley Golf Club. This fundraiser supports our causes for the year. Nationally we support the Lions Club International in projects such as Seeing Eye Dogs, Cornea transplants and the Rocky Mountain Eye Bank, as well as disaster relief. Locally, along with our youth Leo Club, we support community projects, give scholarships, collect eye glasses and hearing aids to name a few. (Sponsors are needed for prizes and more. And players can sign up to play the game.)
August 16 – Concert in Sandstone Park – RESCHEDULE – Jesse Garland
August 16, 7-8:30 p.m. – “I’m Not a Savage” – Lakota Performers in Europe. Nederland Mining Museum — Minimum age 12 with accompanying adult. REGISTER. Boulder County Open Space.
August 18, 9-11 a.m., Senior Walk, Boulder County Open Space = Join us for a moderate-easy hike above Boulder for a general nature hike. We will use our senses to experience our environment. We will also explore how fire changes our landscapes over time. Expect uneven terrain and approximately 200 feet of elevation gain. See BoCo Tours ARTICLE or go to their web site.
August 18 – 19 – 20 = Music and Dinner in the Dark, Boulder’s Dairy Center. The Blind Cafe Orchestra featuring the Richie Flores Project – The Experience is an award-winning positive social change pop-up dinner, social impact discussion & intimate live music performances held in 100% darkness, no blindfolds! August 19 – Longmont’s “Triatholon” / “TRY A TRI” = two triathlon races! Featuring scenic running and biking courses starting and finishing at the Longmont Recreation Center, 310 Quail Rd., these races are a perfect introduction to the sport for kids or adults looking to try something new!
The year, we have two events:== 18th Annual Kids Only Triathlon== 11th Annual Try-A-Tri. Take advantage of the EARLY-BIRD PRICING as fees increase $10 starting July 15. Online registration is accepted until noon, August 17.
August 21 – Lyons Board of Trustee meeting at 7pm, open to all
August 22 – Weed Management Tour – Boulder County Parks & Open Space – See our ARTICLE – REGISTER
August 25, 5 p.m. “Murder at the Mansion” — historic Hover House, Longmont
August 25 – Astronomy Talk through Boulder County Parks & Open Spaces – located near Lyons – Explore more about the many faces of the brightest item in our night sky, the moon. Learn why there are phases of the moon, what a Blue Moon is, and more! Join us afterward for stargazing with telescopes provided by the Longmont Astronomical Society. REGISTER.
August 27, 2 – 7 p.m. “Hootenanny” This family-friendly event, a fundraiser for LCF and LEAF, is the perfect way to close out Summer in Lyons! at River Bend –live music, dance performances, kids’ activities, a silent auction, food trucks, and the much-loved rubber ducky race. Food and drink will be available for purchase.
SEPTEMBER 2023
***FLOOD 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY***
We invite everyone to join us on September 9th, 10th and 11th as we commemorate 10 years of Grit, Grace and Gratitude: “A Remembrance of the 2013 Flood.” On Saturday, September 9th there will be an open mic, a (residents) community picnic, golf cart tours, flood exhibits with video, and more. On Sunday, September 10th, there will be an official Town of Lyons ceremony with local officials and speakers. A candlelight vigil on the evening of September 11th, closes the weekend.. There will be something for everyone: newer residents and older residents will all find some way to honor how this event has affected Lyons and each other.

September 9, 10, and 11 — Lyons remembers the Great Flood of 2013 with daily activities, including speeches.
September 15, 10 a.m. to 4p.m. – Pinewood Springs – Anniversary of Great Flood of 2013 activities.
September 15 – Longmont Museum groundbreaking of new extension
September 16, 9a.m. – 11a.m. – Interactive Open House to discuss Wildfire Protection Plan in Boulder County = multiple meetings, but the one in Lyons is on this date – location to be determined. ==includes Allenspark, Big Elk Meadows, Pinewood Springs and Lyons (North Mountain Zone)
September 18, 7 p.m. Town of Lyons Board of Trustee Meeting; open to all.
September 26 – Venus de Miles Race IN LYONS. — Venus de Miles is Colorado’s first and finest all-women’s bike ride and celebration of sisterhood.
October 12: Boulder County Board of Commissioners Town Hall: The commissioners will host an in-person Town Hall event at 5:30 p.m. at Left Hand Grange (195 2nd Ave, Niwot, CO 80544). Residents and businesses are welcome to attend and share comments and questions in person. = Bo Co Minimum wage is one of the topics

LYONS Quarterly ART SHOW – 3rd Quarter 2023 (July 12 – October 6) – Town Hall & Library: Art Show sponsored by LAHC — The Library art show features a solo artist. — The Town Hall features local residents’ art.
Lyons (history) Redstone Museum Open on weekends in May for “May Historical Preservation” Month. Open June 1 to October 1 every day = 303-823-5271. In the winter, call to make an appointment for research that can’t wait till summer.
RMNP *FREE* 2023 dates are: January 16, April 22, August 4, September 23, November 11. Entrance fee is waived but some dates still request a timed entry reservation permit online beforehand, May to October. Each is a public “holiday” related to the parks. — Colorado state parks and forests also occasionally offer “free days.”
BINGO – (1.) Longmont Bingo Hall, Longmont, every Sunday – funds go to the Middle/High School equipment (located behind Wendy’s on Main Street) (2.)
