Evans Street apartment construction going into high gear

REPORT FROM HOUSING COMPLEX OWNER:
Here are a few updates on the complications and progress on the 317 Evans Street affordable housing project:
ASBESTOS: I was very sorry to learn on July 1st that our EPA-mandated asbestos containment generator was bothering a neighbor. Before the end of the day, we had shielded it, pointed it away from their place, and engineered a special filter to scrub the diesel emissions. We’re now finished with the asbestos work; and we will need the generator only occasionally for 220 volt power.
SCHEDULE: The asbestos cleanup set us back a bit, but we’re trying hard to finish the project before the end of summer. We hope to complete demo, foundations, craning/installation, and site work in about 2 weeks each, with a little overlap.
MODULARS: The 3 modular buildings are coming on 8 trailers. The duplex is built, and staged behind the recycling center on the first 4 trailers. The 3-plex is built, and should arrive this week. The 4-plex is under construction, and arriving in a few weeks.
RESIDENTS: We’ll get former residents back, and new people in, as soon as we can. We’ve started a list of people who are interested in our 3-bedrooms and 1-bedrooms (please email ColoradoLookoutLLC@gmail.com).
THANKS. We really appreciate all of the support we’re getting from Town staff, neighbors, and everyone swinging hammers to get this done.
…………….Leigh Williams

These photos show the back of the building, from the alley view — the “during” and “after” of the asbestos removal.
Referring to the building covered with white material, Leigh Williams said, “Before the containment work, that space held a building with two apartments and a laundry. The pic shows the old building fully covered by the containment tent. It’s now gone, except for the subfloor and foundation. The bigger blue and white building didn’t require removal because the asbestos was only inside.”
Referring to the second image with a flat wood deck, Leigh said, “That’s the subfloor of the removed building, with even the flooring stripped away.”
REMEMBER this is an ongoing project, and things can change day to day. The Lyons Recorder will keep you posted on major news. We anticipate another article after the modular units are installed in a few weeks.
