Paul Stephen (Stevie) LaRue, Obituary

Paul Stephen (Stevie) LaRue passed away at his home in Lyons, CO on June 13, 2023, after battling lung cancer. He was 78 years old. Stevie was born in Springfield, OH in February of 1945, to parents Barbara & Vicky LaRue. He grew up there with his brothers Jack and Doug, and sister Vicky. Stevie lived in the Midwest until his 20s, when he relocated to Boulder, CO in the early 1970’s.
After spending some time in the Boulder area, he moved to Ward, CO where he built a home and started a family. Stevie worked for Boulder County Parks & Open Space for 30 years, and moved to Lyons, CO in 2005. Here, he fell in love with the bustling music scene and the friendly community. Stevie volunteered at Planet Bluegrass for many years, and became an integral part of the scene.
He is survived by his sons Peter and Jake LaRue, daughter-in-law Auburn Lewis, granddaughter Evly LaRue, former wife Amy LaRue, nephew Tyrone LaRue, nieces Melody LaRue and Kimberley LaRue Boston, great nephews Nicholas Johnson and Joff Boston, and great niece Jolene LaRue.
Stevie LaRue will be dearly missed by all his friends and family. He was a free spirit, one of a kind, and left an impression with everyone he met. He will be remembered as a kind soul, a lover of music and nature, and #1 fan of his sons Pete and Jake.
There will be a Celebration of Life at the River Bend venue, 501 W. Main Street, Lyons, CO on July 23rd from 2-6 p.m. All who knew Stevie are welcome to attend.
For those attending,… this paragraph will be removed on Sunday, so if you want a “clean copy” of the obituary, wait till next week to print it.
STEVIE LARUE Memorial – the family says: We have Harry & Amy taking care of food, KC & Pete are providing the libations, and we owe a huge thanks to Betsy at Riverbend for donating the space for the event! All you need to bring is some tip $ for the bartenders (Venmo is cool too), a reusable cup (if you have one); Riverbend is a plastic free venue – NO plastic bottles. Maybe some tie dye. There is parking on site, but consider carpooling to make parking less of a headache. Or walk/bike to the event if you’re able. No outside alcohol is allowed. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday.
