NOTE: We focus on events in Lyons. We add a few special events outside of Lyons, but, in general, do not provide the LINKS, as they are usually big enough to be well-publicized all over the web.
JUNE 2023
June 21/22 – Happy Summer Solstice Day! celebrate Midsummer!
June 21, 10:30 a.m. – Combination of Kick Off of kids’ garden workshop /and/ kids storytime. see library for details and register.
June 23 & 24 – in Hugo, CO – June 23 and 24, annual Colorado Championship Ranch Rodeo where you can cheer for your favorite working ranch cowboys, including the infamous 6666 Ranch Rodeo team known by “Yellowstone” fans, as they compete for the title of champion. Following the rodeo, Texas country singer- Randall King. See real working ranch cowboys from throughout the region . The town of 787 people is located SE of Denver, off US40. June 24, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m., Good Old Days Program at Lyons Redstone Museum. The name has changed to History Day at the Museum, (Town of Lyons will not be participating this year). Plus announcing Certificates honoring (1) Kathleen Spring, for 25 years “history preservation” work, and (2) teens graduating this year, from “pioneer families.” Town officials and commission representatives will speak. June 24 & 25 – Celebrate Midsummer at the 30th annual Scandinavian Midsummer Festival! Traditional Folk Music, Dance, and Food, Maypole, Specialty Scandinavian and Viking Vendors, Volvo and Saab Auto Show, Beer Garden, Flower Crowns, Crafts, Story Telling, Colorado Band Nordic Daughter, and Vikings!!! June 25, 10a.m. – all day. Agricultural Heritage Center’s annual Barnyard Critter Day where you can view Amanda McCavour’s site-specific installation and enjoy art activities, food, music and fun for the whole family. No reservations. You’re invited to simply show up! Learn more see our ARTICLE.
June 25, 3-5:30 p.m., Party & Fundraiser in Pinewood Springs — for the fire dept. and the Community Church. Free classical, folk, rock & roll, and ragtime concert… plus refreshments. Bring chair. 260 Buttonrock Rd/ also known as Gate 6. See our ARTICLE.
June 28 – 2nd Concert in the Park for 2023 – Gingerbomb. (see below for a full list) Bring a chair.
June 28, 10:30 a.m. – for kids of all ages, at the library: A crew from Lyons Fire Protection District will read us stories, show us an emergency vehicle, and teach us how they work together as a team! See library for details.

4th of JULY – CELEBRATE OUR FREEDOM! — all government offices and services closed.
July 5 to 10, Wednesday to Monday: Rooftop Rodeo – the best small rodeo in American – in Estes Park — the PARADE is back (not since 2019 due to COVID reasons), on Thursday at 10 a.m.
July 7 – resident art due for exhibit in town hall. 5:30 to 7p.m. “ready to hang” See LAHC.
July 8 – Evacuation Drill – sign up with Pinewood Springs Fire Department. See article (next week) or Facebook page.
July 11, 7:30 p.m., library. Adventure travel talk and photos of Japan by Cheri Hofer.
July 12, 4:30 – 6p.m. OPENING of quarterly Art Show by LAHC. Library features Kristine Birdi, plus town hall resident art; music, food. See future article for more info. NOTE the earlier time for opening of art exhibition.
July 14-16 – Started in 2016, SnowyGrass Music Festival is as much about enjoying music as it is participating. The festival, which takes place at Stanley Park in Estes Park, includes workshops for aspiring banjo and fiddle players, as well as beginner lessons in jamming. Performers include Becky Buller Band, Special Consensus, Molsky’s Mountain Drifters. LYONS Quarterly ART SHOW – 2nd Quarter 2023 (April 12 – July 5) – Town Hall & Library: Art Show sponsored by LAHC — The Library art show features a solo artist. — The Town Hall features local residents’ art.
Lyons (history) Redstone Museum Open on weekends in May for “May Historical Preservation” Month. Open June 1 to October 1 every day = 303-823-5271. In the winter, call to make an appointment for research that can’t wait till summer.
RMNP *FREE* 2023 dates are: January 16, April 22, August 4, September 23, November 11. Entrance fee is waived but some dates still request a timed entry reservation permit online beforehand, May to October. Each is a public “holiday” related to the parks. — Colorado state parks and forests also occasionally offer “free days.”
BINGO – (1.) Longmont Bingo Hall, Longmont, every Sunday – funds go to the Middle/High School equipment (located behind Wendy’s on Main Street) (2.) Estes Park American Legion Hall, every Sunday 6 p.m. (located on Hwy 36); call before you go. You can also order a meal, and drinks.(3.) Boulder County Aging serves lunch at the Lyons Walt Self Senior Center (Lyons seniors, ages 60 and up), located in the apartment complex Community Center next to the Post Office. You must call the day before by 1 p.m. to place an order (303) 441-1415. The menu is stated on the phone message. Donation of $3 suggested, or what you can afford.
