Poet’s Corner: Against the Hiraeth

Against the Hiraeth — by Rocklyn Grace (Annyce Stone)
Your voice.
I heard it once.
So sweet it made every
earthquake halt and remember
the olden time of hearing.
It was a place,
more than a place.
It was glory and holy
and a longing,
calling and calling
on the scarred places
the elders’ hearts
the Days’ Ancient stone
set upon the corner of an echo
across the green vale
where the rocks are rune decorated
and the wind rests its mighty
head on the cool earth to
breathe again in gentle
crashes against the Hiraeth.
It is everywhere and nowhere,
Your voice.
“Hiraeth” is a Welsh term that is a deep longing for something, a home, that is irretrievably lost.
Photo credit goes to: Fares Kaze. He is co-author for the book, “Soaring Wolf Howling Eagle.”
The poem is by Lyons poet Annyce Stone, but it is listed in e-book stores under her pen name of Rocklyn Grace.
