NEWS Briefs & NOTES from your editor, 5/11/23

If there ever is an emergency in town, or timely news needing to be distributed, you can trust the Lyons Recorder to put it online immediately.
Dear Readers,
This weekend we celebrate Mother’s Day. Many studies have proven that there is a special bond between a mother and a child that begins while the child is still in the womb. Of course, for many the child joins the loving circle when they are adopted, or when two families are joined together as step-families. But the key is that it seems to come naturally.
When my child was born, it was the first time that I experienced and understood the meaning of crying tears of joy.
My favorite quote is by Abraham Lincoln, who said: “All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” His mother died when he was nine years old… further proving that there is an almost magical connection between mother and child, that doesn’t even have to take years to develop.
Please do something special for your mother… whether it is something MADE by you, such as breakfast in bed, or a craft greeting card, or even a long phone call. Of course, those gifts that are bought are just as precious… MOM! no need to cook supper this Sunday! Or, pick flowers from your garden. Or, stop by the store for chocolates. Or, think about what piece of jewelry to wear.
I hope this has stirred up some ideas in your head, and you will take action. Have a great, fun, loving day!

WEATHER: Tuesday night blew everyone away, for miles around! There was non-stop lighting flashing in the sky for about 2 hours! There was also a brief, very heavy downpour. And, then a few minutes of hail – everything from 1/2” in Pinewood to “avocado size” in Longmont! Someone in Longmont told me around lunch time that she still had a lot of small hail on the ground in her yard! === During the past week we had lots of pleasant days, around 70 degrees… The next few days will bring more chances for rain and cooler weather, close to 60.
