NOTE: We focus on events in Lyons. We add a few special events outside of Lyons, but, in general, do not provide the LINKS, as they are usually big enough to be well-publicized all over the web.

==INTERNATIONAL DARK SKY WEEK April 15–22, 2023 ==
April 12-16 Silent Auction online – SEE ITEMS. Estes Valley Crisis Advocates. As well as hosting the Safe House for men, women and children who are victims of domestic violence, volunteers and paid Crisis Advocates staff often accompany our police force and our fire department personnel when a call for help needs to be answered. We all appreciate “a shoulder to cry on” (Items are on display at the Stanley Hotel lobby, April 15, 4-7p.m.)
April 13 – Thursday – Longmont Museum “evening talks” – for a conversation about hurricanes with National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) scientist Dr. Rebecca Morss! Free, but register.
**April 14-15 = Due to temperatures dropping from 80 to 30 degrees, and a light snow, multiple OUTDOOR events in Lyons have been cancelled or delayed**
*cancelled due to weather* April 15, 8p.m. – sneak peek at the films offered by Lyons Film Festival. See 4 Earth Day adventure shorts on the outside screen at A-Lodge Rock Garden. $15, includes a free beverage.
April 15 and 16, at the Yellow Barn on hwy 36 – themes of Birth, Rebirth & Revolution in a space filled with music and art. – presented by Brittany Cochran. For many months, we have been researching and putting together the Spring Threshold Summit. What conversations are you having during this precious lifetime? Open to all ages (above 6 yr) Hear inspirational speakers and local musicians. You can make art, stretch, receive reiki and cranial sacral therapy, walk the farm land and enjoy local food between dialogues. April 16 – Author Talk – The Lyons Recorder reviewed this book in January. It is the story of a woman who became an investigator on sexual abuse cases with CU, and it changed the “athletic locker room mentality” forever. Join Longmont Librarian Jana at the Longmont Museum for an intimate conversation with Erika Krouse, the acclaimed Colorado-based author of the memoir “Tell Me Everything: The Story of a Private Investigator.” Program to be followed by a book signing with books for sale in the Museum’s Gift Shop.
April 16, 10 a.m. – 3p.m. – Arvada’s annual KITE Festival. free parking; no dogs allowed. Stenger Sports Complex (11200 W. 58th Ave.). The free, family-friendly event is the perfect way to celebrate the start of spring! This event is produced by the Arvada Festivals Commission. The Kite Festival includes the following activities:
- Kite flying! Bring a kite or purchase one at the event
- Kids Zone with inflatables and face painting
- Kite demos by professional kite flyers
- More than 70 vendors and tons of food trucks
- Denver Museum of Nature and Science’s Curiosity Cruiser
April 17, Monday, deadline to get your IRS taxes filed.
April 17, 7 p.m. Town of Lyons Board of Trustees meeting. Open to all.
April 18, 6:30 p.m. at Lyons library, women’s group – per leader Nancy Pecone: A place for women to come together to share their journey with other women. The first meeting at the Lyons Library on April 18 at 6:30. Future meetings will have cacao ceremonies, fireside gatherings, meals together, meditation, yoga, and other balancing activities. We can let the divine feminine in us all loose together in fellowship.
April 19, 10 a.m., Estes Park Museum == Book Club, free == The April selection is Ranger McIntyre: The Stones of Peril by James C. Work. This work of fiction follows Ranger McIntyre as he works to solve a murder in Rocky Mountain National Park during the 1920s. The ranger has help untangling the crimes when his glamourous friend, Vi Coteau decides to join him in the backcountry. Join the 1917 Book Club final meeting of 2023 and contribute to a lively discussion facilitated by Museum staff.
April 19, 7 p.m. Ethiopia Culture ‘travel’ program at the Lyons library. Neil Sullivan, co-founder of Spirit Hound Distillers and co-owner of St. Vrain Market here in Lyons, has traveled to Ethiopia extensively over the past 12 and has stories and pictures to share with you! Neil is the current Chairman of the Board of PRIDE Ethiopia (Partners for Rural Improvement and Development in Ethiopia), a Boulder-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving educational opportunities in under-served, rural communities in the mountainous regions of Ethiopia. Come enjoy rare photos and first hand stories of a country, culture and people in an authentic manner not otherwise accessible.
April 20 – Estes Park library closed for staff training.
April 21, 3-5p.m. – Gateway Realty Group is excited to announce our upcoming 2nd Annual Earth Day clean-up event. Let’s come together as a community and make a positive impact on our environment by helping to clean up our town’s parks and streets. — We will provide all necessary equipment, including gloves and trash bags, and will haul all collected trash and recyclables off after the event. —Please RSVP to help us know how many to plan for. April 22, EARTH DAY! Do something to honor and celebrate our earth!
April 22 & 26 — pick up new trash cans from Town’s Parks department.
April 22 – LYONS TREE *limb* PICK UP – Saturday, April 22, 8 am -noon. The limb drop off will be held in conjunction with an open house and tour of the Public Works Facility along with a Meet and Greet with the Board of Trustees and the mayor from 9a.m. to 11 p.m. Residents only.
April 23 – Tulip and Fairy Festival, Boulder, 9am to 5pm, Pearl Street — Spring officially arrives in Downtown Boulder when the vibrant Tulip Fairy, along with pint-sized fairies and elves, parade around the Pearl Street Mall ‘welcoming the tulips’. This beloved springtime tradition features performances and activities for kids of all ages and celebrates the more than 15,000 tulips that adorn the world-renowned Pearl Street Mall throughout the spring season. Rain Date: April 30
April 23 International Book Day — Grab that book you’ve been putting off and read it! ~~~ The Longmont Library has a program, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., for the whole family. We’ll start with storytime and finish with a bookmaking craft. Register.
April 27, no Lyons “Busy Readers Book Club” this month (it is bi-monthly)
April 28, ARBOR DAY. Plant a tree!
April 29, 12-6 p.m. – annual Lyons Film Festival, at Diner Bar, Lyons. Films are from all over the US and beyond, including documentaries and stories. It will be a ticketed event. $30 all day.
April 30, 11a.m. to 4 p.m. – Maker’s Market – A-Lodge’s Rock Garden will have craft persons selling their products on the last Sunday of each month.
May 2023
May is Archaeology & Historic Preservation Month in Colorado.
(check out the calendar in May – the Lyons museum will not have any special programs but is open to celebrate AHPM on weekends for you to learn about your town’s history)
May 2, 2-6p.m., Library community room, 451 4th Avenue – Vitalant Blood Drive IN LYONS == We already have 25 people signed up as of 4/11/23, so slots are filling fast…which is great. NOTE: the Power Red donation – that’s a double-donation option where you donate twice as many red blood cells but they simultaneously return all of the other components of your blood…they filter the red blood cells with a special machine. It takes longer, but is an excellent and important option!
May 3 – Fine Arts Festival at the school. We will feature all of our LYONS SCHOOL bands and choirs (all levels), display artwork, and will have food trucks. Times for concert will likely be between 5:30pm onward, perhaps 8:30pm (TBD)
May 7, 8a.m. Annual Emerge 5K “Rise Against Suicide” — As the mental health crisis for young people deepens, a local non profit is hosting its annual 5K to raise money for therapy sessions for teens and preteens at risk of suicide
May 27, 9a.m. – 3 p.m. Annual Plant Sale, fundraiser for Lyons’ Rocky Mt Botanic Gardens. For more information, go to: www.rmbg.org

June 3 Annual Bee Festival – Featuring BETHYLOVELIGHT / Buddha Bomb Tribute / Miraja / and Brigitte Mars, natural herbs.== 11 speakers./ Herb Walks./ Live Painting./ 2 food trucks./ 13 “Eco-booths” / Costume contest at 3 p.m.
June 17, Saturday, annual Garden Tour. – fundraiser – self-guided walking tour of 6 wonderful home gardens in Lyons. More info coming.
June 24, Good Old Days Program at Lyons Redstone Museum. Plus Mr & Mrs Good Old Days.

RMNP *FREE* 2023 dates are: January 16, April 22, August 4, September 23, November 11. Entrance fee is waived but some still request a timed entry reservation permit online beforehand, May to October. Each is a public “holiday” related to the parks.

Boulder County Aging serves lunch at the Lyons Walt Self Senior Center (Lyons seniors, ages 60 and up), located in the apartment complex Community Center next to the Post Office. You must call the day before by 1 p.m. to place an order (303) 441-1415. The menu is stated on the phone message. Donation of $3 suggested, or what you can afford.
