NEWS Briefs & NOTES from your editor, 3/16/23

If there ever is an emergency in town, or timely news needing to be distributed, you can trust the Lyons Recorder to put it online immediately.
Dear Readers,
Lyons just wants to have fun.
Last weekend, the Friends of the Library put on a “standing room only” program featuring three Silent Films (Buster Keaton, and Charlie Chaplin). It was just simple fun. Prat falls. Dangerous stunts. Consistent obstacles. Laugh-out-loud shenanigans!
A few months ago, local residents participated in a reenactment of a 1930s Radio Show. Again, a simple storyline with silly dialogue.
Is this a sign that people are wishing for a return to simpler times? Where we could laugh at a man slipping on a banana peel? And the only worry we had was whether the guy got the hand of the dame from her dad.
This weekend, we can fall back on good old St. Patrick Day shenanigans — with just about every bar in town offering “green” or “Irish” drinks, food and music. Or, we can go to the competing celebration taking place in Estes Park of the “Frozen Dead Guy’s Day.” With dozens of live bands, activities, and, again, special foods, but blue (frozen) in color food and drinks.
Enjoy your simple, mindless, laugh-out-loud fun!

TRAVELLING CORRESPONDENT: Our Lyons friend Cheri Hoffer has now flown to Japan and is sharing her adventures. Her first week was in Tokyo. Sometimes comparing it to her months in Mexico this past fall, and other times with her life in Lyons. But mostly just sharing what she is experiencing – this past week she left Tokyo and landed at a beach, with her eventual destination Kyoto. She walked a long beach used by (surf) boarders; and she saw a class of teens in their uniforms go into the water up to their necks. What a unique experience. You can read her journal on her Facebook page.
