January 19, 7p.m. – SpiritHound continues its “science talks” with , “Riparian and Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration” with Tony LaGreca.
January 20, 10:30 a.m. – drawing and sketching class at Lyons Library. Register.
January 20 – 7p.m. at Library – next “Storytelling event” – theme: HABITS. Good ones, bad ones, resolutions to change them or keep them, stories about ‘nuns habits’, whatever fits. 12 & up; you can just come to listen. Stories are 5 minutes, and must be yours. January 21, 2-4 p.m. Lyons annual Winter Wonderland Concert in LaVern Johnson Park at ice skating rink – for details and options see Calendar. — Another one will be in Feb., and one in March. Sponsored by LCF and Town of Lyons. // this may be delayed or done elsewhere due to damage to the rink. Check the Town web site for news.
January 21, 10-11:30 a.m. “Earth Speak; Ancient Wisdom; New Science” a talk at the Lyons Library. Register.
January 21, 12:30 p.m. – Art Trading Cards, at Lyons Library. This is a worldwide popular mini-art exchange event.
January 21, 1 p.m. An expert talks about book “Mountains” by W.S. Cooper (1884-1978) that includes ice mtn. climbing and other adventures. free. Estes Park Museum. no registration required.
January 21, 11a.m.-12 – for KIDS: Paint Your Own Sky with Lulu Buck–Registration REQUIRED Join author Lulu Buck for a special hands-on project where kids will learn how to paint their own sky and learn more about “Sue’s Sky,” a book about acceptance using the gentle metaphor of the sky to encourage kids to accept others’ perspectives of the world around them. Parents will also receive a resource to support their child in safe spaces, being aware of our bias and anti-bullying. LONGMONT Library View event details + REGISTER
January 23, Monday, 4 – 7 p.m. OPEN HOUSE – SHERIFF SUBSTATION in DEPOT Building – the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office is hosting an Open House for residents to meet the new Lyons Chief, Sergeant Cody Sears. The substation is located in the historic Depot building located just west of the library. There will be light refreshments served.
January 24, 9 a.m. online –Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR)===The objective of this training is to reduce suicidal behaviors and save lives by providing innovative, practical, and proven suicide prevention training. This course is open to anyone age 16 or older. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help (presented by Mental Health Partners) Trainings@mhpcolorado.org for more information and to register.
January 26, the Lyons Library Book Club returns “Busy Readers Book Club.” It offers both a live morning discussion, and an evening Zoom discussion. Register. “Euphoria” is the book this month; stop by and pick up a copy.
January 27 – Longmont Senior Center – Vic Anderson – Come hear the songs, stories and yodeling of 3 time winner of the Yodeling Championships, Vic Anderson. A true entertainer with personality and wit, he writes as well as he sings. One of the most beloved entertainers in northern Colorado and his home state of Montana. January 27, the cornhole tournament lives on! at SpiritHound. We just moved it inside and made it smaller. Join us for a mini cornhole tournament, play starts at 6:30pm. Get here early to sign up and the winning team will get a bottle to share.
January 29, 4 p.m. – UKRAINE DINNER – Want to know more about Ukrainians settling in Colorado? Come and enjoy a perogies dinner and learn what you can do to help. St. John the Baptist Church in Longmont (Lyons connection is Robyn Sloan) REGISTER . The evening will include a pierogi dinner and guest speakers from the Ukrainians of Colorado organization. They will share the experiences and needs of the Ukrainian refugees. All proceeds will be donated to the Knights of Columbus Ukraine Solidarity Fund.
January 29, Sunday, 10:30 to 3:30 p.m. – MUSIC /plus/DISCUSSION – Songwriter Showcase, Moxie & A-Lodge in Lyons — This has expanded to include A-Lodge because the increased number of musicians. February 24th — Longmont Senior Ctr —Erma Bombeck –By Your Side—Erma Bombeck brought to American awareness the life of women whose lives otherwise felt invisible and taken for granted. Known for funny phrases (but true). LYONS Ice Rink, in LaVern Johnson Park: Mother Nature Dependent== The weather and colder temperatures look promising for ice skating over the next week. We need cold nights and pretty cold days to maintain the ice rink to skate on ! The town website has the hours for recreational skating and hockey skating along with the times the skate rentals will be open. Typically rentals are available on weekends.
Lyons (history) Redstone Museum Open June 1 to October 1 = 303-823-5271. Call to make an appointment for research that can’t wait till summer.
RMNP *FREE* 2023 dates are: January 16, April 22, August 4, September 23, November 11. Entrance fee is waived but some still request a timed entry reservation permit online beforehand, May to October. Each is a public “holiday” related to the parks.
BINGO – (1.) Longmont Bingo Hall, Longmont, every Sunday – funds go to the Middle/High School equipment (located behind Wendy’s on Main Street) (2.) Estes Park American Legion Hall, every Sunday 6 p.m. (located on Hwy 36); call before you go. You can also order a meal, and drinks.
VETERANS: Information and support services are available to Veterans every Wednesday at the Estes Park American Legion Hall, from 9-11 a.m. New Opportunities coming soon. The country-wide CRISIS hotline/emergencies is now in effect: 988 = for Americans in crisis to connect with suicide prevention and mental health crisis counselors. (bypass calling 911 or the police)
Lyons now has a co-responder (mental health) who will come out with the Police, if you need help. Ask for one when you call 9-1-1.

You can get a COVID-19 vaccine at a pharmacy, doctor’s office, pop-up clinic, or mobile vaccine bus near you. The COVID-19 vaccine is free. You don’t need ID or insurance to get vaccinated. Boulder County Aging serves lunch at the Lyons Walt Self Senior Center (Lyons seniors, ages 60 and up), located in the apartment complex Community Center next to the Post Office. You must call the day before by 1 p.m. to place an order (303) 441-1415. The menu is stated on the phone message. Donation of $3 suggested, or what you can afford.
