Your TOUR GUIDE: JP Stevens arrived in Boulder in 1975 with his then future wife, Cynthia, who he’d met while attending University in the Pacific Northwest. JP’s Boulder roots run deep- his grandfather was born in a farmhouse in Hygiene, Colorado in 1896. Growing up, JP attended Longmont High School. He would later spend most of his career in the tech industry, starting his career at the Boulder-based company NBI Incorporated. He would also go on to work for Compaq and Microsoft before retiring in 2018. JP and Cynthia have lived in Boulder in the same house for over forty years. JP has always been interested in history and feels blessed to live in a community with such a rich history and with citizens who are committed to capturing and preserving our heritage.
Martin Luther King award, and upcoming Black History exhibit

Congratulations to Minister Glenda Strong Robinson, who received a lifetime achievement award in this year’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Colorado Holiday Commission Humanitarian Awards! Rev. Glenda also serves in the instrumental role of the Oral History Coordinator in our IMLS-funded “Proclaiming Colorado’s Black History” exhibit, opening on September 29, 2023 at the Museum of Boulder.
She will receive The Honorable Menola Upshaw Lifetime Achievement Award, which is fitting because both Minister Glenda and Menola spent years working in the NAACP, among many other organizations.
The postcard shown above is courtesy of the NAACP and shows Minister Glenda Robinson marching in 1968. The photo of the marchers was taken by photojournalist Ernest Withers and is on display in the Smithsonian African American Museum of History and Culture and the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis.
