Mailbox: support for candidate Marchman

EDITOR’S NOTES: We have received four Letters to the Editor from supporters of Janice Marchman for Senate, for our new District 15. We put in our News Briefs last week a “call out” to a resident to write a letter of support for the Republican candidate Rob Woodward, but have not received any letters. Two letters are from Lyons area residents, and two are from Front Range people in our District. Each letter has a little more information in it, and is worth reading to help you make an informed decision.
Also, beginning in March 2022, Marchman made almost monthly appearances in Lyons in order to meet with residents in their home town (including stops in Pinewood Springs).
To the Editor:
Lyons was drawn into a new State Senate District for the 2022 elections, which means we will no longer be represented by Senator Steve Fenberg. We are now part of a Senate District 15, which stretches from the Wyoming border down through Fort Collins, Loveland, and several mountain towns including lovely Lyons. This year we have the opportunity to vote in what may be the most competitive district in Colorado. The results of this vote could have massive repercussions for Lyons and for Colorado as a whole, as the balance of power in the State Senate may depend on the results in SD-15.
Janice Marchman is the Democratic candidate in the race. She’s not a politician – she’s an engineer, mother, and middle-school teacher who is passionate about making a difference in her community. She is also an extremely kind, relatable person who really listens and cares about the issues that impact us.
I believe that Janice Marchman is the obvious choice for Lyons in this election. Janice shares Lyons values – education; protecting the environment from large corporate interests; helping families deal with the increased cost of living by lowering healthcare costs and embracing affordable housing options; focusing on protecting seniors and worker protections; and believing firmly in reproductive rights and the freedom to make your own choices about reproductive healthcare. We all know affordable housing is a huge challenge in Lyons, and we also know that the fight to protect the air and environment has been a major issue lately.
Janice cares about the issues that matter to us. Her opponent recently stated at a candidate forum that abortion is not a priority for him as a legislator, and just this year he voted against a bill to protect the right to contraception and reproductive care. Well, it may not be a priority for him, but it is certainly a priority for me and the people I care about, and it is one of many reasons that I will be voting for Janice Marchman on November 8th! I hope you join me!

Dear Editor,
I am writing, as a Coloradan and a Lyons voter, in support of Janice Marchman for our state Senator in Colorado’s District 15. I would like Janice to represent us because, very simply, she is the best person for the job. Growing up in a military family, Janice Marchman absorbed an ethic of service that informs every part of her life. As Senator, she will serve all the people of northern Colorado, from the youngest kids to retirees, from the cities of the Front Range to every mountain community.
By nature, she is a natural-born problem solver. As an engineer, teacher and public servant, she is well-qualified to do the work of a legislator. She has already shown her commitment to Colorado’s future by working with leadership to create durable solutions in natural disaster prevention and recovery, insurance protection for vulnerable communities, and strengthened public education.
In Janice Marchman we have a candidate with great values, a willingness to serve, and determination to make Colorado a better place for all of us. You can vote for her in confidence that she will do the job we’ve sent her to do.
Respectfully, James R Easter, Lyons (Pinewood Springs)
Dear Editor:
There are changes to be aware of this election affecting the mountains of Western Boulder County. The new Colorado re-districting maps were approved in 2021 based on the 2020 Census.
The biggest change in the new maps is that the mountains of Western Boulder County will be moving from SD18 to SD15 (Colorado Senate District 15). Western Boulder County will no longer be included with the city of Boulder. Our biggest population center will now be Loveland.
Our current representative in District 18 is Stephen Fenberg. After the election in November, Western Boulder County will be represented by the winner of the SD-15 election, either the incumbent Republican, Rob Woodward, or his opponent, Democrat Janice Marchman of Loveland.
We strongly endorse Janice Marchman. She has Colorado values: protecting the mountain environment, particularly from wildfires and floods, fighting for women’s reproductive rights, honest and open government for the people, and strong public education. Visit janiceforcolorado.com for more information.
Please look at the new maps and determine which elections you will now be able to vote in before you vote this fall. And please consider voting for Janice Marchman.

CO SD15 has a new map and a new excellent candidate, Janice Marchman, to go with it! Both she and her opponent GOP Robert Woodward hail from Loveland, but the new CO Senate district15 includes BoCO mountain towns (Jamestown, Nederland, Gold Hill, Ward), Estes, Lyons, west Ft Collins, from WY border to southwestern edge of Boulder including Marshall. It’s huge. Unlike the incumbent who has supported the GOP/Trump agenda for his tenure, Janice Marchman has experience as an engineer, math teacher, school board member; she has excellent people skills, common sense and is an experienced negotiator. She is interested in water source protection and environmental care. She is supported by Rep Joe Neguse, Gov Polis, Phil Weiser, Judy Amabile and many others, including Mayor Arndt of Ft Collins, Mayor Marsh of Loveland, Mayor Rogin of Lyons, Mayor Box of Jamestown, the CEA/teachers, safe communities, woman’s choice, Pipefitters, among others. The list is long. She is such a big plus for Colorado! Please vote for Democrat Janice Marchman Nov 8!
