October 20, 7 p.m., Science & Spirits series “Fire Science & indigenous Cultures with Mary Huffman” at SpiritHounds (& specialty cocktails) An engaging inside look into wildfires and controlled burning, from an American Indian perspective (traditional fire practices) & Nature Conservancy.
October 21 – 2nd session of sketch class at Lyons Library
October 21, 2:30p.m. – Pedestrian Bridge Grand Opening: After a long journey, the 4th Avenue Pedestrian Bridge and Safe Route to School project, connecting our middle and elementary schools is wrapping up. Join us for a community celebration at the Bridge beginning at 2:30 pm. The elementary students, staff and families will head over after school lets out. So many are excited to have this neighborhood connection and path back! After the Great Flood of 2013’s destruction.
October 21, 7 p.m. – Radio Theater Show, put on by LAHC, Barney Dreistadt, coordinator, live performance of “Burns & Allen“ and “Dragnet” at the library (alcohol will be served)

October 22 – The very popular local women group Big Richard who performed twice at Planet Bluegrass this year, will be performing in Nederland, at the Caribou.

October 25, 7 p.m. How to Tell a Great Story. Learn how to use storytelling to create a better community… more connected residents… Workshop is put on by Lyons’ Wide Spaces Community Initiative. Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra returns to perform the live musical score to accompany a screening on the 100th anniversary of this silent horror film classic. This unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, features not Dracula but Count Orlok, a nightmarish, spidery creature of bulbous head and taloned claws — perhaps the most genuinely disturbing incarnation of vampirism yet envisioned.

October 27, The Change of Life: Understanding Women’s Health Going Through and Post Menopause – Longmont class #485200 – free. Call the Senior Center at 303-651-8411 if registration form doesn’t work. Let’s talk about “going through the change” of life and of long-term impacts. Join Dr. Lydia Hostetler and Dr. Srijaya Nalla, Obstetrics and Gynecology at Longmont United Hospital, in discussing these important changes and take the opportunity to ask more questions. October 28, 6-8 p.m., Laser Tag; Tweens and teens only, put on by Teen Advisory Group, Lyons Library. Free. A SPOOKTACULAR laser tag after hours at the library! Hosted by the Teen Advisory Group, our games are designed to build teamwork and provide fun for all. Everyone will vote on game options and will take turns participating. Costumes are encouraged but not required; snacks will be provided.
October 29, 7-9 p.m. Noche De Museo: Celebrating Day of The Dead = A Multigenerational Evening of Music and Dance==$10 general admission, $8 students/seniors, $5 members=the Longmont Museum Stewart Auditorium comes alive with musicians, singers and dancers of all ages for an evening in celebration of Dia de los Muertos. Mariachi groups from local schools join up with seasoned veterans, while young performers join seasoned pros to sing and dance to traditional Mexican song. Join us for this annual community celebration of a centuries old Mexican tradition which has quickly become part of the cultural fabric of Longmont. October 29, Spooktacular including Parade in town== (1.) The Spooktacular will have the games and fun for families and kids of all ages beginning at 4 p.m. till 5:30 p.m. at the Elementary School on Sat. Oct 29. (2.) The Parade is at 6 p.m. with line up at 5:45 p.m. (3.) The trick or treat at stores starts afterwards, about 6:30 p.m. (4.) All Colorado women have faced and overcome a wide range of challenges throughout our state’s history. From ranching to telegraphy, overcoming tuberculosis to participating in bootlegging, many of their struggles continue into the present day. November 17, 6-9 p.m. – The Boulder Library Foundation will host “From the Page to the Stage,” its second annual fundraising gala to support library programming. The evening event inside Boulder Library’s Canyon Theater will be hosted by LeeLee James, AKA The Twirling Tech Goddess, and feature music by the Cultural Caravan. Enjoy refreshments in the Canyon Gallery, the adjacent gardens and on the bridge over Boulder Creek. The country-wide CRISIS hotline/emergencies is now in effect: 988 = for Americans in crisis to connect with suicide prevention and mental health crisis counselors. (bypass calling 911 or the police)
Lyons now has a co-responder (mental health) who will come out with the Police, if you need help. Ask for one when you call 9-1-1.

TIME TO ENROLL OR CHANGE MEDICARE PLANS: Participating Medicare enrollees are invited to connect with Boulder County Area Agency on Aging counselors starting October 20. Open enrollment period runs from Saturday through Dec. 7, during which time people can review or change their plans for next year. ===== BCAAA Medicare counselors are State Health Insurance Programs certified and can help enrollees by comparing their current plan against other options. Counseling appointments are both virtually and over the phone.
