October 1-2, Estes Park Elk Fest & More: This year’s event takes place from Saturday to Sunday, in Bond Park. The entire two-day festival is free, however, there are admission fees for some special events.

October 1, 9 a.m. – 2p.m. – Paws in the Park, Festival and Walk for Longmont Humane Society. Get your friends, family, and furry companions ready to walk, eat, and celebrate Longmont Humane Society’s 50 Years of serving animals in the community. This year, Paws in the Park will host an old-fashioned family Fall festival as well as the classic Pet Walk around Rogers Grove Park

October 7, 10 a.m. -12 p.m.– the first of a series of sketching classes at the Lyons Library, on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month. REGISTER. Love to draw or always wanted to learn the basics? Explore tools and techniques in graphite, charcoal, ink, and unlock your inner artist! Bring a Sketchbook. Meets the First and Third Friday of the month. Space is limited. Registration required. free
October 7, Friday, Tandem Art Show, 4th Quarter – residents pick up 3rd Qtr art /and/ drop off 4th Qtr art. (see below 10/12/22) Theme: “Thanks. Giving. – ‘Tis the season.”
October 7, 4 p.m. Kick off Longmont Restaurant Week with a culinary tour of The Times Collaborative. Enjoy 8 plates prepared by 8 of our in-house chefs! Tickets are $45 each, include one beer or wine. 10% of the proceeds will benefit Longmont Food Rescue and their mission to create a more just and equitable food system.(it is a co-working space in downtown Longmont).
October 8, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Northern Colorado Annual Family Preparedness & Safety Fair, at the Ranch in Loveland. Free. over 30 life and fire safety vendors with information booths. The public will be able to tour emergency vehicles, participate in free safety classes conducted by the American Red Cross, partake in raffles to win prizes, carve pumpkins at pumpkin carving stations, as well as join other fun children’s activities! A pumpkin sale will also be available by Bartels Farms.
October 9, 2-4p.m. Book reading and signing by local Boulder County author Aaron Perry. To take place in the combined space of Western Stars Gallery & Studio, and Diner Bar patio, 160 E. Main St. Y-on-Earth Community Gathering & Celebration, book “Viriditas” Viriditas is at the same time an eco-thriller and cautionary tale about the dangers of playing chicken with climate change… fun, compelling, thought-provoking.
October 7, 4:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.: Opening of TOWN Tandem 4th Quarter ART SHOW & Unveiling of Mural: (On Friday, Oct. 7th, residents pick up 3rd Qtr art, and residents drop off 4th quarter art.)***These are TENTATIVE DETAILS per LAHC as of 9/27/22, see our ARTICLE this week”**** (1.) The creations by LAHC Commissioners (past and present) will be presented in the Library, to be displayed on matching- book-subject shelving. (2.) October 12 – 1-2 p.m., “Blood Pressure” = Zoom – “Fresh Conversations” about staying healthy/mainly food topics – second Tuesday of each month – free -This group discusses eating healthy.

October 29, Spooktacular Parade in town==The Spooktacular will have the games and fun for families and kids of all ages beginning at 4 p.m. till 5:30 p.m. at the Elementary School on Sat. Oct 29. The Parade is at 6 p.m. with line up at 5:45 p.m. The trick or treat starts afterwards, about 6:30 p.m. Also, back (after the pandemic) is the Garden Club Chili cook off (location to be determined).

Lyons (history) Redstone Museum is open 7 days a week: Sunday 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. / and rest of week 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Free but donations are welcome! Open June 1 to October 1 (last day is Sunday October 2nd). 303-823-5271.
FREE FITNESS IN THE PARK (LONGMONT): all ages – no registration. Every Friday. View the Fitness in the Park Schedule – go to the very bottom of the page and click on “Fitness in Parks” to see which park it will be in this week.

Mental Health Partners, Colorado — IN CRISIS? – As of June 2022, they reopened their Crisis Center for walk-ins 24/7 again – 3180 Airport Rd., Boulder (normal resource center: 2935 Baseline)
Lyons Emergency & Assistance Fund has free mental counseling available. Sometimes it is paid for by your insurance company, sometimes Medicaid, or use sliding-scale, or free. contact: mentalwellness@leafLYONS.org
The country-wide CRISIS hotline/emergencies is now in effect: 988 = for Americans in crisis to connect with suicide prevention and mental health crisis counselors. (bypass calling 911 or the police)
Lyons now has a co-responder (mental health) who will come out with the Police, if you need help. Ask for one when you call 9-1-1.

Boulder County Aging serves lunch at the Lyons Senior Center (Lyons seniors, ages 60 and up), located in the apartment complex Community Center next to the Post Office. You must call the day before by 1 p.m. to place an order (303) 441-1415. The menu is stated on the phone message. Donation of $3 suggested, or what you can afford.
