Lyons Recorder: what was news 10 years ago in Lyons… (front page 9/6/12)

EXCERPT: Part of Town Board Meeting notes: the Town Sheriff said that despite the very busy last few weekends (Folks Fest, Kinfolk, USA Pro Challenge, Venus de Miles, and the Devil Dash) his call load was “light.” He did note that Kinfolk seemed to bring in a “different” crowd from what normally shows up for RockyGrass and FolksFest. This did lead to a few arrests for over zealous partying, and quite a few late night “noise” complaints.
UPDATE:
==This year we were returning to our two big traditional festivals, RockyGrass and FolksFest, from a pandemic lockdown.
==Perhaps the Wildflower individual Concerts could be compared to the upcoming multi-day, multi-performers Mabon festival. The first concert stars Sierra Hull who compares to this year’s performer Emmylou Harris in stature in the music world.
==Two weeks later Yonder Mountain String Band performs; and you will hear about their long-standing autumn equinox (Mabon) performances in our ARTICLE this week about the upcoming 2022 Mabon festival.
==Four more shows take us into October of 2012. Note, the tickets were $20 for each show. And, that all the autumn shows take place in the Wildflower Pavilion, the enclosed stage.

Neil Sullivan, St. Vrain Market owner, is featured in the photograph. He is still making high-quality sausages at the Market. Neil and Connie celebrate 13 years of ownership in 2022. Neil says about the club: “That is fun! Back then we had locals join a culinary sausage club where the St Vrain Market would make one new exclusive recipe per month for members to try. YES we still make fresh homemade pork sausage several times a week but no longer have a club in place. However, our customer loyalty (10% purchases discount) program has enrolled most of Lyons residents, and that helps us achieve our Mission of “Building Community” here in Lyons.” (Enroll at the cash register)
The School Mill Levy, and the School BBQ are very briefly mentioned on the front page; and you will see more about them in an upcoming article this month (highlighted in LaVern’s September 2012 About Town).

EXCERPT: Ice Cream Social – takes place in Sandstone Park, and includes the Stover Street Stompers. “Donations of any amount are welcome; all funds raised go in full towards the preservation and maintenance of the 105-year old historic Lyons Community Church, located at 305 MainStreet, right in the middle of Lyons. Lyons Community Church is the home of the Lyons Food Pantry, where over a dozen and a half volunteers work every week, year round, to prevent food scares by serving up boxes of food basics to people in need, the folks who are our neighbors.”
UPDATE:
You will note that the Church is still going strong today, making it 115 years old now. And, that the Church was in charge of the Food Pantry. Today Lyons Emergency & Assistance Fund (LEAF) is in charge, and they serve around 40 households each week, and distribute about 6,000 pounds of food each month.
