Nine vacancies this summer in Lyons Boards and Commissions, join and make a difference
COMMISSSIONS AND BOARDS
Every Quarter the Lyons Recorder updates the list of Commissions and Board members on our Community Resource Page. For the first time this “year 2022” four of them have additional vacancies, even though several old vacancies were filled this year. As of April there were four vacancies, and as of July there are nine.
You can see our pages, which describes what each Commission/Board does, including some past accomplishments, and future goals. You can also look at the newer Annual Town Report done by Greg Lowell. (see a copy at Town hall or the library). Contact Town Administrator Victoria Simonsen about your interest, and she will answer your questions, have you fill out a form, and she will connect you with the Chair.
There are some wonderful people serving, and you might make a lifelong friends, who have similar interests in improving citizens’ lives in Lyons by joining! Take a look.

REPORTS ACCESSIBLE TO TOWN PUBLIC
The original report was done over several months, in the first part of 2020, by Kathleen Spring. She heard about more than a dozen vacancies, some of them open for a few years. Kathleen thought that if the public could see what a board does, that they would be more likely to want to join. She insisted that the CHAIRS of each board write the descriptions in “every day language,” and not some kind of government technical jargon. Then she edited it into a harmonious 13 page document online. The openings went from approximately 13 to four! with some of the success attributed to the public seeing this “Supplement Article.” It is updated quarterly, when there are a significant number of vacancy changes.
=== This Boards & Commissions 2020 FEATURE Supplement ARTICLE won a Journalism Award for Excellence. (With the judge starting out the review with “WOW!” you put a lot of work into this!)
=== Greg Lowell, Town Board Trustee, would later do a much larger ANNUAL Report covering a greater aspect of the Town of Lyons business in 2021, and a 2nd one in 2022. It is available for the public at both Town Hall and the Library, and online. Contact the Town Clerk for information.
