Town of Lyons promotions for summer events
Unique Events Coming to Lyons
Diverse offerings provide for more than just a stopover destination
LYONS, Colo – No stranger to hosting large outdoor events, Lyons has its share of bike races, kayak competitions and music festivals on a regular basis every summer. In the coming weeks, Lyons is the home for several outdoor events that are a little different, but nonetheless showcase Lyons’ unique beauty, rich culture and welcoming vibes. Once considered a cute little stopover on the way to Rocky Mountain National Park, Lyons continues to give visitors reasons to seek it out as a great destination and fun place to linger.
Things kick off with a bloom on Saturday, June 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. when the Lyons Garden Club presents the second annual “Mountain Blooms” garden tour. Participants will experience a day of fun and visual splendor as they explore the town of Lyons through the lens of local gardeners, making their way through 10 gardens including sprawling flower and butterfly gardens, as well as intimate vegetable and fruit gardens. A fundraiser for the Lyons Garden Club, all donations provide for the further beautification of Lyons public spaces. Registered participants will receive a digital map and discounts to local businesses the day of the event. Attendees are encouraged to walk or ride bikes to enjoy the tour. Also on Saturday, June 18 Lyons will host a PRIDE get together. The event is a celebration and show of support for LGBTQ+ in the community with the aim of creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment, especially important in a small town such as Lyons. The festivities are organized by local youth and coordinated by partners with OUT Boulder County, a nonprofit that provides services and support for LGBTQ+ people; Open and Affirming Sexual Orientation (OASAS), a youth support group; and Wide Spaces Community Initiative, a Lyons Regional Library program. Events run all day starting at 9 a.m. at The Stone Cup coffee shop with a gathering and conversation, followed by a pedestrian parade starting at Sandstone Park and winding through town. From there, a rally, live music, information booths and speakers will continue in Sandstone Park, culminating in a happy hour at Main Stage Brewing Company from 3 to 5 p.m.
On Sunday, June 26 the Town of Lyons and The Butterfly Effect Theater of Colorado (BETC) present Dorothy’s Dictionary, a powerful, heartwarming and timely new play by E.M. Lewis. A very unique presentation of mobile theater with its own traveling stage, the BETC truck will be parked at River Bend event venue, at 501 West Main Street, with free admission to the play beginning at 4 p.m. The mission of BETC’s new touring theatre truck program brings free professional theatre into local communities, serving people where they live. It is free to all and attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets. For more Information on the tour, visit: www.betc.org/truck
