Boulder County Commissioner shares news on town hall meetings & funds
Brief Report from Boulder County Commissioner 6/13/22
Funds for mitigation the impacts of construction project
On Monday, June 13, Boulder County Commissioners met virtually with residents of the areas surrounding Gross Reservoir to update them on our plans for distribution of the funds Denver Water is providing Boulder County to assist with mitigating the impacts of this massive construction project. Denver Water earmarked $5 million for residents to address the noise, dust, light and truck traffic from expansion of the dam. I realize this is a pittance compared to what residents will endure. But it is what we were able to negotiate. We have retained environmental consultants to model how these impacts will affect the homes in the area so that we can distribute the funds based on objective criteria. Sensible people know that the project is a misguided boondoggle. But, again, courts throughout the country have ruled that issuance of a permit by the Army Corp of Engineers preempts local regulation of hydropower dams.
Distribution of American Rescue Plan Act funds
On Tuesday, the Board of County Commissioner will approve the distribution of approximately $36 million of federal American Rescue Plan Act funds for a variety of projects and services. They will be used to address housing, economic and mental health needs that were exacerbated by the pandemic. In future meetings we will consider an additional $17 million in funds.
