School News: Sports record breaker – and PTO officers in and out
Gemma Powell, your 2A state champion in discus

Gemma Powell won 5 out of the discus 7 competitions she competed in this year, and was 2nd and 3rd in the other two.
The 3rd place was in the St. Vrain invitational track meet we co-host with 94 teams represented and throwers from all over the state and all classifications. She won the Boulder County Track and Field Championships on April 16th, and she set the school record of 122′ 11″ at the Mile High League meet breaking Jolene Brown’s school record of 119′ 11″ set in 1980.
She was seeded 3rd at the State meet, and she ended up competing on Sunday morning, May 22, due to the weather delay from Friday’s storm. Her first throw was the 119′ 8″ mark that won the competition, and it seemed to get in the heads of the other throwers. The top seed, senior Lauren Herman from Holyoke, had thrown over 123′ four times during the season and had a best of 127′ 5″ on April 1st. She had a couple of warm-up throws over the 125′ line, but her best throw Sunday during the prelims and finals was her fifth effort of 118′ 10″, and sophomore Gemma Powell became a State Champion!
We’re really proud of her, and she and Coach Maguire had a great partnership this spring!

EXECUTIVE BOARD OFFICERS FOR 2022-2023:
We had our election earlier this month for next year’s Officers:
President: Audra Felt
Vice-President: VACANT
Treasurer: Etta Sanders
Secretaries: Kim Malito and Allison Zema
VP of Bingo Operations: Judy Brownsberger
EXECUTIVE BOARD AND COMMITTEE VACANCIES as of April 2022: we are REALLY in need of help with some critical roles: Vice-President, Volunteer Coordinator, Communications Coordinator (to assist our FABULOUS Communications Liaison, Stacey Paznokas), a Treasurer in Training to take over for our WONDERFUL Etta Sanders in Fall 2023, and we are in immediate need of another person to join our “Team Concession” along Jenny Abernathy and Lynne Johann. You won’t find better people to work with!
With Gratitude: Brian Brookes (VP of Bingo Operations), Kari Basey (Vice-President), and Richelle Brown (Concessions) will be retiring at the end of this year. We are SO incredibly grateful to them for their service to Booster Club and beyond. Brian has been with Booster for the past 6 years, as both a Session Lead and then as VP. He has contributed in more ways than I could possibly list and has created a Bingo program that is rock solid. Kari has been our VP for the 2021-22 school year, and in classic “Kari-style” she has volunteered for everything and accomplished more than most of us do in 2 years. Richelle Brown has been working behind the scenes as our Bingo Supplies Buyer and Concessions Inventory Guru. Her attention to detail and dedication for a smooth-running machine have been so appreciated! I would also like to recognize Audra Felt, Judy Brownsberger, and Lynne Johann who have stepped into leadership roles for 2022-23!
Farewell and Thanks to School Staff: We would like to wish Dr. Smith the very best in her position at Erie Middle School and we’re so thankful for her collaborative work on so many booster-related projects. Personally, I am beyond indebted to Ann Cisar who has guided me as the LBC President for the last 6 years. Her support, wisdom, and complete dedication to the success of Booster Club (and our school) goes beyond description. Best wishes, Ann!
