Boulder County Health Department is putting on multiple classes on “Medicare” and “Diabetes Prevention”. Go to their web page for more information.
Boulder County Aging serves lunch at the Lyons Senior Center (Lyons seniors, ages 60 and up), located in the apartment complex Community Center next to the Post Office. You must call the day before by 1 p.m. to place an order (303) 441-1415. The menu is stated on the phone message. Donation of $3 suggested. (Guests or those under 60 years of age pay $8.25) Masks are required. ==Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday – 12 noon – Walt Self/Senior Center

SENIOR EXERCISE – 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., free. For Lyons seniors 55+ ===now back in the re-opened Senior Center basement. Contact Lramsey@townoflyons.com == entrance on the alley side of the building; every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 – 11:30 am. If the weather’s nice we’ll grab our hand weights and head outside to exercise or we’ll do a walk before heading inside for stretching and yoga. Masks are required inside the building.

Women’s History Month
March 3,5-9 p.m. “Nature” Art Opening – meet the artists – I’m listing this because there are some fantastic wildlife and nature paintings that will be shown, and I know how much locals enjoy that kind of art. “The Enchanted West: 21st Century Interpretations” new paintings by Michael Charron and Shy Davis. Off Broadway Art Gallery @ the Pine Street Church, 1237 Pine St., Boulder. Show runs March 3 thru March 25. Some refreshments served. 30% of all sales to benefit the OFF-BROADWAY PRESCHOOL FOR FINE ARTS. There will also be some kachina’s on display.
March 3-4, Friday 4-8pm $5 admission; Saturday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. $1 admission. – QUILT FUNDRAISER for OUR CENTER: Masks Required. Place: First Lutheran Church, 803 – 3rd Ave., Longmont. Interfaith Quilters is a group who make quilts and smaller quilted items all year to sell the first weekend in March. The proceeds from our sale go to the OUR Center of Longmont and the Safe Shelter of St Vrain Valley. During the year we make quilts for other needs, such as Quilts of Valor, the Mountain States Children’s Home, and flood and fire survivors.
March 6, Sunday, 12noon to 5:30 p.m. – SENIORS! Town of Lyons Bus Trip – Denver Downtown Aquarium. =This includes a 4-D short film / an aquarium boasting more than a million gallons of underwater exhibits that highlight fascinating ecosystems around the world. ==houses over 500 species of animals. Contact LRamsey@townoflyons.com (or call town hall and ask for Lisa). Lyons senior 60 years old and older. Discounted group rate of $19 (save $10). And bus is free! (You must pay before the event, by dropping off cash or check at Town Hall) As of 2/25/22 there are 4 seats left.

March 8 – International Women’s Day is a globally celebrated day to recognize the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. March 9 – Seniors! Celebrate Mardi Gras with a New Orleans flavored lunch at the senior center – Chicken & Sausage Jambalaya with rice, roasted Cajun Okra, and cornbread! be sure to call in by 1p.m. the day before. See “senior menu” info above.

.March 12 Lucky Lyons 5K – The courses include paved, gravel and dirt sections in Lyons. Race at Bohn Park; party at Oskar Blues (racers get a free beer). Wear Green for St. Patrick’s Day. Proceeds for 2022 will benefit the Boulder County Wildfire Fund/Lyons Community Foundation. All DETAILS here.

.March 16, 6:30 p.m. – Lyons Library “Busy Readers” book club. “A Town Called Paradox” is the next book, which takes place in the red sandy town of Paradox in Utah. AUTHORS will be present! It will depend on the COVID restrictions at the time as to whether it will be virtual or in person discussion. The library has plenty of copies of the book.

March 19, 6-9 p.m. – Longmont Humane Society fundraiser at the Boulder County Fairgrounds is back in person! Put on your party clothes and join us in celebrating our 50th year of serving animals in our community! This year, our guests will enjoy an evening featuring local chefs, breweries, distilleries, wineries, live entertainment by Foxfeather and thoughtfully curated silent and live auctions, all to benefit animals in need in our community.==”Homeward Bound” party is a 21 and over event. March 27, 4 p.m. Death of the Pugilist, at the Lyons Middle-High School new auditorium. Based on a story by Daniel Mason. Set on the quayside docks amid the squalor of working-class life in 1820’s England, the narrative follows a young man as he comes of age in a rough-and-tumble profession, with music weaving the rich layers of emotional tapestry and humanity.
