The Lyons Boys Basketball teams are a little over half-way through their season. They have three teams, Varsity, JV and C, and a new coaching staff. Head Coach Ryan Bant-Cogburn is no stranger to LHS as he works as a Para-educator, and coaches’ football and track. He is joined by Junior Varsity Coach Noah Tank (previously with Longmont High’s basketball program), Lars Basey, C Team Coach and LHS basketball alumnus, and Landon Taliaferro, Volunteer Coach and NBA G League player.
Basketball was popular this year with 26 young men in the program, a few playing the sport competitively for the first time.

The Varsity record is 7-5 overall and an impressive 5-1 in league. The Junior Varsity team has won most of their games and have a talented group of young men. The C team is gaining valuable experience and improving with every game.
The Varsity team is coming off a 5-game win streak. A balanced offense with four players averaging double digit scoring has been integral to the team’s success. Gage Basey leads the team in points per game with 20.7, Nate Richardson adds 15.6, William Rieder with 12.3 and Caden Pandolfi with 11.7. Each player has taken turns in leading the team in scoring and made it difficult for defenses to key on any one player.
Four players average at least 5 rebounds per game. Leading the way is Basey with 11.3, Grant Gau contributes 7.3 (many on the offensive boards), Henry Johnson with 5.7 and Richardson with 4.8. Unfortunately, Johnson has been injured and unable to play of late.
All three guards lead the team in the important but not always glorified assist department. Richardson and Pandolfi lead the team with 3.4 and 3.3 assists per game respectively. Rieder adds an average of 2.7 assists per game.
Finn Oetting is the steels leader for the team with his quick and aggressive play averaging 2.3 steals per game. Gage, Caden, Nate, Grant, Will all range between 1.9-1.6 steals per game. Gage leads the team in blocks with 2.9 per game, and the state for 2A competition.
Lyons has only one more home games during the regular season (5 away games). Come support your local team!
