October Stroll Thru Lyons (photo spread of events)

Lots of activities going on in October this year, despite the ever increasing COVID numbers in Colorado. Please get vaccinated and wear your masks! if you attend the Rave to the Grave, the Halloween Spooktacular Parade down Main Street, or go door-to-door Treat or Treating! Remind your kids that when they attend the Spirit Week and Games, they need to mask-up… only a few more weeks and the 5 to 11 year olds can get their vaccines! Stay safe, and it should be a great Thanksgiving this year!

October 23, was the Highway 7 Cleanup Day, a semi-annual project of the Lyons Lions Club and the Lyons Leos Club. They gathered 10 bags of trash from the roadside in town and out to Hall Ranch. Mark Browning commented, “Maybe it will stay clean for awhile with restricted highway access.”

On behalf of the town residents, thank you to the Lyons Volunteers Weed Posse for all the hard work they have done to make Lyons a beautiful place. Each year, we find fewer weeds in our town’s public spaces due to this diligent group making sure to pull the roots, too, whenever possible. And, thanks to the DIG group who kept LaVern M Johnson Park weed free, and pesticide free this year! (The last Weed Posse day is October 28; contact Cathy Rivers for the location).

Ah, the little pleasures in life. The state highways are getting their white and yellow stripes repainted this month… ready for the bad winter weather driving! Remember to get your tires checked if you plan to drive on Interstate 70, as CDOT has implemented the Passenger Vehicle Traction and Chain Laws for the winter season.

Mother Nature loves to compete with Mother Sky! and both win! This is from Anne Catherine Denning’s backyard, near McConnell Street, Lyons, in October 2021.
