THIRTY EIGHT YEARS!!! Whoa is me. I have been writing this News Column for the past 38 years, every week, a total of 1976 weeks..Trying to inform you, the reader, of what is going on in town. I have been under editors: Fern Rigdon, Jeff, Joseph and Laura, Walt Kinderman, and others..
I started writing some news when the kids were in school, and sent it to Dorothy Stevens or Fern Rigdon, who wrote a column for Lyons as well as the Times Call. Fern Rigdon was writing the Lyons news, of which her husband was mayor at the time, and Walt Kinderman, just came from Denver in and bought the newspaper.. Kept roasting Rigdon, so Fern got mad and quit, and I took it on!!! Sometimes it is still controversial.At the present time, Kathleen Spring is rounding up all kinds of news, articles, and pictures, sending it on-line a Good ‘Paper! Actually I should quit, but know people and things she doesn’t, so guess I will carry on..Look under lyonsrecorder.org to tune into Kathleen’s news and my About Town, each Thursday morning..Susan McCann puts our her monthly paper, which is also filled with news, and the Town puts out their e-mail, and the school sends their news, so I feel the Town news is pretty well covered. each their own.As for me, you may read it or not.. Sometimes it is too long. and I especially would like to be replaced writing the Town of Lyons Trustee News.. go to the meetings or on Zoom, and tell you what they do. Sometimes it is hard to hear them, and they have 200-400 pages in their packet, and their agenda, which sometimes is hard to understand, and YOU NEED TO KNOW THE TOWN NEWS..HELP! HELP! He sys “Hi” to his Lyons classmates and friends: His parents owned Shelley’s cottages and his father, Henri, was the Lyons Representative on the St. Vrain School District, when our school was in jeopardy of being closed and the Jr\Sr High students bussed to Longmont (1948-1970) when a School Bond was finally passed for our New Lyons High School, opened in 1974! His mother, Pat, was the Lyons Kindergarten teach; He has two brothers, Bill and Roby. 2021 RESIDENT PARKING PASS. The annual parking pass is valid January 1 – Dec 31. The parking passes are available to residents of Lyons (Utility billing customers only); one free resident parking pass per household; a second pass may be obtained for $40, and three or more $55.00 each. Golf carts are considered vehicles and the one free parking pass may be used for a golf cart. === NON-Lyons residents may purchase a season parking pass for $80.00 per vehicle. === The parking fee for 2021 is $2 per hour on weekdays and off season weekends, and $3 per hour on peak season weekends. Parking fees must be paid at the kiosks located throughout the park with a receipt to placed on the windshield. THE TOWN BOARD MET ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 18TH-following is New or Pending businesses of the Town:
THE NOVEMBER BALLOT is the question: “Shall the construction of a solar generation and battery storage facility be permitted on approximately one acre of Bohn Park, southwest of the Bohn Park Dirt Bike Park?(Registered voters will vote “yes” or “no” The ballots have been mail, due Nov. 7, 7:00-7:00pm
A new grant from DOLA is available to businesses-see Brianna Hoyt;
ADU’s in town are encouraged.See the Building inspector, if you would like to change your outbuilding into living quarters.
The Town has voted to receive the $2 million grant to put a trail from Lyons to the Foothills Junction, Matching funds are $152,000. Neil Sullivan, partner in Spirit Hounds protested the trail, due to loss of their use of that land they lease from the town.;
Several residents of Eagle Canyon protested CDOT using the land along Hwy for a tower. Although, now taken down, they surmise it will be put back up on CDOT land maybe across the road. It would not be on town property and the town are No Say; however, they are using the town’s electricity
1 – A long discussion was held on the ordinance to update the Town of Lyons Repealing and Replacing update The Wireless Communications Facilities Section;
2 – that Boulder County Collaborate with the Town of Lyons to review connecting trails between Lyons Trails System and Heil Ranch Open Space via the Hatrock\Crona Hill Area;
amendment to the Construction Agreement with Walsh Construction fo Bohn Park Phase II;
7 – A resolution declaring a climate emergency and establishing Lyons Committment to taking immediate act was extended until Nov. 1st’
8.- A resolution to recommend that Boulder County will collaborate with the Town of Lyons to Review Connecting trail Space via the Hatrock\Corona Hill area; Boulder County Open Space said they were willing to work with the town.
9 – The Town plans to talk to CDOT about replacing the crosswalks over 3rd & Main; and 3rd & Broadway; and Miley Street;
10 – For the Stormwater improvements to Martinez Associates;
11- Ratifying the DOLA Main Street Open form Business Grant;
12 -The staff reported that the only land they could find for storage of RV is was in Bohn Park, which caused a large discussion on: town renting out property, the location, vandalism, others thinking it was an RV park, who is to manage it, etc. They hope some individual business will come up with some space.for people’s RV, who cannot use their driveway for RV parking.
14-Approved services for the construction of the 4th Avenue Pedestrian Bridge, Trail connections and street improvements with Anderson Bridges, LLC;
15-With Clarion Associates for a Comprehensive Plan Update; (various organizations are being interviewed as to what the want to see in Lyons in 10 years-the next Comprehensive Plan update.-public meetings are to be held
16- An Eastern Corridor Advisory Committee is to be formed;
17- Pending: discussion on Lyons Valley Park Out Lot and Transfer of Warranty Deed to the town;
18 – Resolution ratify8ing the First Amendment to the Professional Serices Agreemtnwith DeFalco Construction Company for the Bohn Park Water Improvement Project;
19 – A resolution to execute all Agreements and to Perform all other Actions Necessary to join the Colorado Opioids Settlement Memorandum of Understanding.
20 – Future Projects: Depot-what to do with it; follow up with Mr Bell on outlots; Renter’s rights; RV parking come into effect in November; rental permit program. Make a presentation before the town board for 4-way stop signs on 2nd Avenue.

(The group is going to look into the feasibility of a Recreation center,as to a location, its use for gym, programs, fitness, meeting rooms, etc.- at the cost of building such a Center which is estimated to from $12-15 million, and being able to operate it with memberships and attendance to support itself; encourage and support a recreation center in the north part of Longmont; to get more use of the Lyons schools -gyms, fields, etc. for Lyons recreation (e-mail ianbrighton@mail.com if you are interested in being on the committee.
LAST MEETNG:
1.- BUDGET ITEMS WERE PRIORITIZED:were: 1. St, Vrain Trail with a $2 million grant with $152,000 Matching funds; 2-Martin Acres; 3-Bike Park repair; 4-Bohn Park-Phase III with lights; 5-Street light screening, 6-small dog park;
3-The Commssion emphasized a 4-way stop at 2nd Avenue near Bohn Park, as soon as possible, as there are hazards of seeing over the slope on the bridge, which makes blind spots (if someone is below the slope; the driver can’t see them), The Commission is recommending the 4 way stops, with “slow” speed signs to avoid a tragedy .
4.- The 4th Avenue Pedestrian Bridge Design is upcoming and out for Bid. (The bridge will be paid for thru Safe Schools grant is scheduled to start this fall and be finished in 2022.
5.-.The Town agreed to try for the $2 million grant for the St. Vrain Trail east of town to the Foothills Highway. The town leases the land at the back to: of Blue Mountain Stone, Spirit Hounds, and Clark’s Hardware the trail has to go thru, as well as over 3 or 4 ditches- The town is trying to come to an agreement with the Ditch companies as well as the Northern Colorado.Water District.The grants for this Trail amount to $2 million and will be an advantage to all..the businesses on the Eastern corridor; bikers, and hikers to get off the highway and to safety; and will meet with St. Vrain Greenway Trail coming west from Longmont.; Matching funds needed are $152,000; The amount of the grant is $2 million.
6 -The 10 acres south of the Dog Park may be used for bike trails, with a practice loop for skills, with a proposal for the area, with a side trail at the south 10 acres for a 6 foot wide trail half way to Ledge Ditch;
7-The installation of the Water Rescue units is pending.
8–Walsh Construction has finished the storage area for softball and baseball..
9- The Ponds water quality proposals for Aeration or nanobubble technology are being reviewed.
10- DUE TO COVID THE 2021 Lyons GOOD OLD DAYS was not budgeted for;
and will be discussed under Events: The Lyons Good Old Day is set for Saturday, June 25,2022, High school classes of the 0’s; 1’s; and 2’s, Mr. and Mrs. Good Old Day, and the 2022 graduates of pioneer families will be honored. Three classes, 1970, 1971, and 1972 will celebrate their 50th year.Pioneers from the Class of 2022 will be honored as well as Mr. and Mrs.Good Old Days.
11-TRASH IN PARKS: Everyone is asked to take a trash bag with you when you go into the Parks and pickup over the busy weekends. ,
12-Volunteers are needed to clean help weed-contact Dave, 823 8255
13-There is still vandalism in the parks; if you see cars driving in the parks in the evening take their licenses; Security cameras has purchased 5 security cameras that will be installed soon.

Closed all last season, we are happy the museum can open with Masks, sanitizer, and social distancing. Thanks to the Museum team, Terri Weir, Monique Sawyer-Long; and look forward to seeing Baiba Lennard, Brianna Hoyt, and Emily Walker.
Dan Kowalski recently took a walk up Lions Gulch Trailhead (located south of Highway 36 on way to Estes Park); and found a plaque honoring Sara Walker-other homesteads are Engert Laycook, Boren, Hill, Pierson Park, Griffith, Walker, Meadow Loop, Brown, Griffith, Irwin, Meyers and Sawmill Homestead; All the building are in poor repair.
In 2020, Although the Museum had to stay closed all last season, the Class of 1969 sponsored a sandstone Bench in honor of Mickey Hawkins, at the Museum, honoring the 50 years since his death; and the paving of the driveway with a sandstone Plaque; stating “Driveway by Western Stone and Roberts Landscaping Corp”. besides $8800 from COVID grants that helped us pay our bills.
