Happy grandparents day! Spotlight on Great-great-grandma Maxine, 32 ‘kids’
No that is not my typewriter getting stuck… Great Great Grandma Maxine Harkalis, 92, Lyons, is frequently visited by her family, and when they’re not around, she has many photographs, souvenirs and gifts that remind her of them daily.
Maxine comes from the Ohline Pioneer family lineage. Her parents, Art and Golda (Brown) Ohline, brought up their family on what they refer to as their Old Homestead, in the mountains just outside of Lyons. Many in her family were involved in the quarry industry.
All four of her children graduated from Lyons schools: Doug Harkalis of Nevada, Rhonda French of Loveland, Donna Johnson of Milliken, and Nicky Harkalis of Lyons. Daughters Rhonda and Donna frequently visit her; and son Nicky lives with her. He too loves to garden, and he works with Rhonda and Maxine to make it the most beautiful, abundant front yard garden on the block.
She has nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
Her 5th Great Grandchild was Makiah Ann Marie Gallatin, born on May 12, 202, born to Tyler and Cassandra Gallatin of Cheyenne, WY. And, on August 18, 2021, her Great-Great-Granddaughter Ella Mary was born to Tabythia and David Dyekman.
Maxine is interested in Senior doings, the Lyons Historical Society, Lyons History Video Project, her flowers, playing in the dirt, embroidering, and all her family. To her the best part is being part of five generations three times in her life.
The Blanket/Quilt has two of Maxine’s great-great-grandkids: Cassandra and Jackson Brandt.
Daughter Rhonda French was visiting for the day, and happily bragged about: Hunter French, her grandson, who graduated on May 28th, and is the son of John French (Rhonda’s son). She shared a photo on her cell phone of Maxine holding baby Makiah.
Rhonda (and John, deceased) French have three kids: Louona, Jill and John
Her Grandkids are Ashley, Jessica, Matt, Tyler, Austin, Dillon, Allison and Hunter.
Great Grandkids are Ryley, Cassanda, Peyton, Jackson, and Makiah.
Son Doug (and Pam, divorced) Harkalis have four kids: Kim, Lyn, Del and AJ
Doug has 5 Grandkids: AJ(John), Samuel, Cory, Trevor and Tabythia.
They have one Great Grandchild, the newest baby Ella.
Daughter Donna and Ron Johnson have two sons, Steven and Michael.
Her Grandkids are Journey and Eli.
