Scrap metal and hard Styrofoam pick up

September 9, Thursday – SCRAP Metal and STYROFOAM Pickup! A request should be submitted to lyonsvolunteers.org  

We appreciate your participation in this effort to divert materials from the land fill.  

The pick up will occur on September 9th, beginning at about 9:00 a.m. to noon.

The helpful volunteers will wear masks and practice social distancing. If you have items that you would like picked up for recycling, please fill out the online Help Request form at lyonsvolunteers.org  by 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7. Please include an estimate of how much material you have. On the morning of the pickup, please put the material in plain view, or let the volunteers otherwise know where the materials will be for quick access.

A couple of notes based on the rules of the CHaRM facility that recycles these items:

Styrofoam   #6 rigid white block foam (typically used for packaging electronics); or sheets of rigid white foam.

NO shipping labels or tape on foam, 
NO packing peanuts, 
NO “Styrofoam” (polystyrene) cups, 
NO “to-go” boxes (clam shells) or meat trays
Only plain white, rigid Styrofoam
Please no materials or dirt in the Styrofoam

 ===Unfortunately, we will have to leave any Styrofoam items that CHaRM will not accept.

 Scrap Metal 
Any items that are at least 50% metal.
Condition does not matter.
Items that are reusable may be given to the Resource Center at the ECO-CYCLE facility.

Lyons Volunteers is now a program of Lyons Emergency Assistance Fund (LEAF). While there is no charge for this volunteer project, donations to LEAF are appreciated and may be sent to LEAF, PO Box 324, Lyons, CO 80540-0324.

So far in 2021, this Zero Waste volunteer effort has recycled over 2 tons of scrap metal and 18 cubic yards of block Styrofoam for Lyons residents.
