Lyons Lions Successful Golf Tournament Fundraiser
The 2021 Lyons Lions Club 27th Annual Charity Golf Tournament was a big success. Many thanks to our major sponsors, hole sponsors, door prize and swag bag donors and private contributions for supporting the event that netted over $11,000. The Lions Club will use these proceeds to continue their eye care and glasses program for low-income residents, scholarships for graduating Lyons High seniors, funding of the club sponsored Leos Club (an active youth organization that assists with community projects like tree planting, Habitat for Humanity and more) and many other Lyon’s projects that need manpower and funding assistance.
The event was full with 120 participating golfers representing 30 teams. The winning score and event champion was a repeat winner from last year, Bassett Carpet. Doug Montgomery won the popular Leos Putting Contest by getting within 13 inches of the target hole from over 60’ away. The Lions Club gave out over 80 door prizes including tickets to the Planet Bluegrass Folk Festival, The Scottish Highlands Festival in Estes Park and several quality golf accessories from Golf Galaxy. Awards for Long Drive and Closest to the Pin earned free rounds of golf at Lake Valley. Hurdles Jewelry in Boulder provided a luxury watch for the gambling hole drawing on the #12 par 3. And, unfortunately, no one made a Hole-in-One on the par 3 16th hole to win the car provided by Mike Maroone Ford and sponsored by Pine View Properties
Mark Webber said, “Great turnout and golf tournament today. Thanks to all the players, sponsors, donations of prizes and swag and for the fantastic job done by all the volunteers that made the event happen.”
Stay tuned for information on next year’s event to be held again at Lake Valley Golf Club on Monday, August 1, 2022.
LEO Club (Lyons Lions) Duck Race Successful
The LEO Club was able to raise $800 in just a few weeks by selling tickets at the free Thursday Concerts in Sandstone Park, and a few more the day of the event. They will be donating the funds to the LEAF “Giving Tree,” which arranges for gifts during the Christmas season to those less-fortunate. The LEO Club consists of Lyons teens who do volunteer projects in the Lyons area. They are a branch of the Lyons LIONS club.
