Another week gone by, two days of 100 degree weather..whooo hot. I saw on TV that the rain is dried up in just two hours of 100 degree weather. That nice green grass will soon be brown..Summer is this week!
SUNDAY IS FATHER’S DAY..Time to remember all fathers, what would we do without them, to make the living.,help raise us, etc Everyone should take a few minutes to Honor our Fathers..

Museum visitors last week were from: Longmont, Estes Park, Boulder, Loveland, Denver, Colorado Springs, Ft.Lupton, Arvada; Sioux Cirty, Ia; Sgt Bluff, Ia; El Dorado Hills, Ca; Minneapolis, Mn; Berkeley, Ca; Portland Oregon, and Penn Valley, Ca; and Peter and Susie Pfister, who have purchased Don Colard property at Spring Gulch; as well as Lyons.
CAMP: There will be no children’s history camp this summer due to COVID-precautions.

LYONS HISTORIC DISTRICT. We have 15 sandstone buildings as a Historic District; the Lyons Redstone Museum (1881 schoolhouse) is the depository of Lyons area history (open daily June 1st, so Stop By). We have good stores and restaurants, churches, and great schools. Although sometimes it is a struggle, we have made it..God Bless Lyons. CO-ED SOFTBALL – First game June 30th = Either sign up on your own or round yourself up a team-$25.00 a member and $400 for a team. There is always lots of excitement at the Ball games, as there is a lot of good competition. They will play on Wed. evenings..at least go watch them -Bohn Park. Lyons has had good Softball teams for years; as far back ’40’s–

COVID is still dangerous, but down to 13 cases today in the County. 23.20 per 100,000 people in the last 7 days; making 23,893 total cases in the county; 836-hospitalizations; total deaths 260; 67% of Boulder county on 2nd shot of the vaccine; in Colorado 2,763,711 have received a full course of vaccine in the state, 3,134,335 have received at least one vaccine shot; There are 546,500 total cases in Colorado, with 6770 deaths, total hospitalizations-30,560, so still have to be careful (masks are required inside, stay in-social distance)

July 14 – Tandem Art Show Opening Reception 5:30 pm at the Library and at Town Hall, by Arts Commission. “Sally White King’s Bearable Light” exhibition at the library– “Bringing Outdoors In & COVID-Wrought Creations,” at town hall. The exhibition is open to area artists “of all genres, ages, and abilities” to bring up to 5 ready to hang wall pieces.. to 432 5th Avenue on Friday, July 9 from 5 to 7pm.

Diversion Day is to encourage residents to divert items from the trash , and will include scrap metal, yard waste, block styrofoam (& hard flat styrofoam), and CHaRM. Boulder County staff will accept items such as paint, stain and motor oil. No trash is accepted.
LYONS DIG DAYS (Dandy Lyons) are held the first Friday of each month-a local group of volunteers working to help keep our parks and our people healthy and pulling weeds. Meet by the zipline in LaVern Johnson Park, on May 7th, June 4th, July 2nd, and Aug. 6th; Bring weeding knife, gloves, cup for coffee; Held outside with social distancing and masks; The day will start with a brief weed ID and directions; then weed a couple of hours, then coffee. GO COLORADO has announced that the Town of Lyons has be awarded a grant for $282,003 that will go toward restoring the St. Vrain River corridor. The grant will focus on the river’s Black Bear Hole access point by providing more parking spaces and a new trailhead at 2nd Avenue..Our congratulations!

BASEBALL: Lyons won their games vs Estes Park and Manuel, but lost to Byers. The team had a good season, and were #13, going into state.. State playoffs are the next two week; however, Lyons may be out..
Lyons Track Teams will be going to District; then State.
Each year, event organizers for the Boulder County Championships award seven standout track athletes in the School district who help propel them forward in their athletic and academic pursuits. Lyons scholarship winners are: Hannah Thomas-Girls, and Nick Parker-Boys. Good Luck.
Timbre Shehee of Mead is the winner of the Class 4A Region 3 girls golf, and will go to State June 21-22; Timbre, a Junior at Mead High Schools, is the granddaughter of Tim and Linda Kelling, formerly of Lyons.

JUNE 21st NEXT MEETING
2. A special meeting on the Summit development was held Thursday to review several alternatives: Is the town unable to contribute to the project; The town allows additional concessions to the project; The town seeks assistance from others; Pursue other funding to offset the costs; postpones the projects; cancels the project; agrees to sell the property and plans; the town seeks other providers; Former plans were to start on the 47 units by the first of July.
3. Approved a new Liquor License for The Prickly Pear Tavern, at 160 Main Street, (where the Lyons Den Was);

Spraying Weeds will be controlled..a joint meeting between the ecology board and the Parks & Rec Commission will be held to settle on the safety of weed spraying for toxic weeds that are too hard and plentiful to pull. 8. Dedication of the Second Avenue bridge is scheduled for July 7th. Congressmen John Hickenlooper and , Joe LeGuse will be present, . and will open soon with the dedication of the bridge in June. Folks are wanting 2 four-way stops, sidewalks, walking lane, etc. from the Parking lot into the park
9. The town has joined the State for winter tourism, and accepted the a Go-Co grant $282,903 for the 2nd avenue parking, restrooms, work in Bohn Park, and more camping in the LaVern Park; Action to begin soon.
10 New construction is being planned east of Lyons-a 2nd story building for Spirit Hounds and Brewery, a building for Marihuana. Spirit Hounds asked the town to purchase McInTosh shares for the expansion of their business
11…Every dog has to be licensed & have a rabies shot.
12. The Park & Rec Commission is looking into putting a small dog park , where the small dogs can run and play on their own, have water and a shelter..They need funds for water and shelter. Folks that use the Dog park continually are asked to donate to the cause so it can happen sooner..send donations to Box 49 Lyons,

15 The Lyons Redstone Museum opened June 1st and be open daily thru Oct. 3rd, going by Social distancing and wearing a mask..Folks are invited to Stop by. Family gatherings are welcome, where visitors can go to another room..Due to COVID the museum was not allowed to open all last summer, new displays have been set up, projects have progressed.

23. Discussed a Community Garden on Town Owned Property by Lyons Community Farm Project, to find out about the borders, the water, orchard trees, amount to pay for the water,-discounted? If a Water tap is available and the cost; , and etc. (which would be located on west of Hwy 7, south of S. Evans Street;)
24.(From the flood the Town had 21 shares and have 6 shares left )
25 The flooded house of 401 2nd Avenue, whose building permit has expired was put on the June 21st agenda. The owner is asking that the Permit which was approved but let expire included restoring the basement of the house. Stating that the Permit was grandfathered in; otherwise the basement would be closed and one-half of the house as well as one-half of the value will prevail.. The house was flooded in 2013; FEMA stated how much money they would pay to get it liveable; but they could not find a contractor to do the work at that price; At the time, it was declared it was not in the flood plain until the new map,which becomes affective soon…
26. Owners of the Burlington Hotel own the entire corner and have evicted the businesses, planning on a 40 room hotel.; Ralpph, Rosey’s, and Karen’s are looking for a business site.
27. Discussed the sale of the town-owned Apple Valley Water Treatment Plant, Town Administrator Simonsen stated she had contacted 4 realtors for their proposal..
28. Discussed the Lodging Tax being collected by the Town-on-town owned properties.
29.. Passed a resolution awarding the construction for the Lyons Valley River Park Water Quality improvement Project with Eco-resource Solutions, Inc.;
30: Discussion on the Martin property, which was given to the Town by the County. The Parks & RecCommission have written an agreement they will ask the board to pass.on the use of the Martin property by the town.
31. Discussed the legality of the McCain property on the corner of 431 4th Avenue, whether it is zoned commercial, if McCain’s business is legal, etc. (This came about due to the Bridge to be installed to the confluence area) , as a sidewalk and bike path is planned for the west side of 4th Avenue
5. Progress is being made on the addition to Aspen Lodge for a Bar and Restaurant
6. Eric Kean held the Grand Opening of Main Street Brewery, Friday, May 21st, with brewing, packaging, and sales, in the Old Fork building. A large crowd was present.
7 . Lauren Click pf the LAHC (Lyons Arts and Humanities Commission is looking for a suitable place for two new murals and Mary Magdaline is looking for a place for her mural on the Arapahoe Indians in this area;

LYONS PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
Monday June 14th at 6pm on zoom; Topics are:
LYONS PARKS & RECREATION meet on Monday June 14th at 6pm on zoom; Jacquelyn Farrell spoke on our input for the Comprehensive plan, with projects (such as the dog park and tennis court) as examples of our overall vision. For instance, we can say we’d like to make our town safer for pedestrians, and one example would be to improve sidewalks in old town. She identified 3 big picture themes to think about:
1. Economic Vitality (keeping our tax income sustainable)
2. Regional Trail Connections
3. Fire Mitigation
The Commission is to add our comments or additions which will be voted on in July:
MARTIN ACRES: The Commission passed an Agreement to take to the Board on the Use of the Martin Acres, which includes a right of way for limited use of Road 69E, with parking at Bohn Park, to walk to Martin Acres, where they plan a loop trail and passive recreation..
Other topics were:
a. They announce that Bohn Park Phase 2 is completed, and are having ballgames. (after 8 years, they made it..Lyons kids are finally playing on the Lyons ball fields..Thanks to all!The park hosts are back .
TRASH IN PARKS: Everyone is asked to take a trash bag with you when you go into the Parks and pickup over the busy weekends.

Volunteers are needed to clean up on Holidays, after the weekends, and all during summer.
There is still vandalism in our beautiful parks; if you see cars driving in the parks in the evening take their licenses; Security cameras are recommended. The last is tearing the handles off the towel, faucets,etc., as well as smearing soap all over.

Closed all last season, we are happy the museum can open with Masks, sanitizer, and social distancing. Thanks to the Museum team, Terri Weir, Monique Sawyer-Long, and look forward to seeing Baiba Lennard, Brianna Hoyt, and Emily Walker.
In 2020, Although the Museum had to stay closed all last season, the Class of 1969 sponsored a sandstone Bench in honor of Mickey Hawkins, at the Museum, honoring the 50 years since his death; and the paving of the driveway with a sandstone Plaque; stating “Driveway by Western Stone and Roberts Landscaping Corp”. besides $8800 from COVID grants that helped us pay our bills. Bonita Joe Yoder from Lawrence, Kansas is here this week, looking at her house on 2nd Avenue that flooded in 2013-She is on the Agenda of June 21st, asking to save her house from the new FEMA rules,and allow her to redo her Basement. She has been a Victim of Circumstances, taking FEMA 3 years to come up with the solutions; she could not find a contractor to finish it and therefore lost that amount; filed for a permit to finish the basement under old FEMA rules, passed but not notified until the permit lapsed..Now is asking the Board to approve the old permit before the new floodplain rules, so she can cover the mortgage..Good Luck Bonita.
Brad LaVoie called to say “Hello” to all his Classmates of 1970; He lives in Oregon on one-half acres with lots of work; is a retired Salesman, and a grandpa; His brother Scott in Seattle, Steve in Idaho and his sister Renae in Idaho. The LaVoie’s lived on Apple Valley Road and had a carpet store in Lyons.
Lyons Community Church now is Open and starts at 10:00am.
LEAF is now open inside for shopping. Wednesdays from 3-5pm, Lyons Community Church
