Garden/Veggie/Seeds & More News around town
Seed Exchange & Seed Bank
Wesley takes some Russian Mammoth Sunflower seeds which Florine Valerie (right) brought from her garden. Christopher is looking at native pollinator seeds with Kate Winfield Hart while Florine Valerie and her son Peter enjoy a moment together.
Seed Swap happened Friday and Saturday, thanks to the Lyons Community Farm Project. The Ft Collins People and Pollinators Action Network donated an abundance of hand-gathered native seeds as well as lots of Lake Valley Non-GMo flower and vegetable seeds. The Swap took place in front of the Lyons Library between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
“We will also be starting up the Seed Bank at the Library, so folks can get seeds and drop off seeds anytime,” Organizer Vasi Toneva Smith said. “Iād say we had over 30 people who came over the two days. About 9 or 10 brought seeds and the rest came and enjoyed browsing through our large collections of seeds that were donated by the People and Pollinators Action Network of Ft Collins.”
Their next planning and brainstorming meeting for the Lyons Community Farm Project was Wednesday, May 19th, at 4pm, at 315 5th Street. The meetings will be held every two weeks. All are invited to join them. Watch “News Briefs” for a report on any significant progress. Write to: lyonscommunityfarmproject@gmail.com to learn more.
The search for a community plot is being done by the Ecology Board. It is looking for someone(s) to take over the planning. Ralph’s Market

Ralph’s Market is located on Broadway across from the Lyons Visitor’s Center. He got in a van load of spring flowers for your garden last week. Over the winter, locals purchased his weekly “fresh produce box,” for $20. He also carries many local produce and honey.
Clark’s Hardware ready for spring

Don’t forget our local friendly Clark’s Hardware store! Not only do they have gardening tools, but they have “barrels” of grass seed, and onion sets ($2 each) and more. And, who doesn’t like to wander around these kinds of stores to discover what they didn’t know they needed?
