A cheerful green box in front of the Rocky Mountain Botanic Gardens, along the 4th Avenue path into Bohn Park, hosts a Little Free Library maintained by garden volunteers. The theme of this Little Free Library is ‘Nature Books’, and it is filled with books on Colorado wildflowers, trees, birds, mammals, insects, amphibians, weather and geology, as well as gardening books focused on organic, native plant, xeriscaping, regional, and rock garden techniques. And since Town Hall and the Visitors Center are currently closed to browsers, it is the only place in Lyons to find free Noxious Weeds of Colorado booklets and guide brochures for the Lyons Walking Arboretum.
This Little Free Library was installed in the spring of 2020 by the Lyons Volunteers and was paid for in part by a generous grant from the Lyons Community Foundation. It’s been very popular this first year, books coming and going steadily, perhaps in part due to the pandemic, redirecting people to spend more time at home gardening and reading about nature in Colorado. Garden volunteers check the box weekly, adding books and removing off-topic materials, which are traded for used bookstore credit to buy more nature books. The Library will be active year-round. Visitors to our Little Free Library are encouraged to borrow the books, and then either bring them back or else bring other nature books, and that way it will stay full and alive.
Colorado Weeds Booklet
Official title “Noxious Weeds of Colorado”, produced by Colorado Weed Management Association (currently 2017 13th edition sold out on their site, I think we have a box of 12th editions).

We’re not on the current registered library list, considering pros and cons of adding ourselves. This is where we bought the library from, biggest one they had to hold oversize gardening books.
