April 1 to May 24: The Lyons Arts and Humanities Commission – call for submissions – Lyons Poetry in Public Places Contest. The theme is “Finding joy and beauty in Lyons.” Selected poems will be chosen to be published on posters and displayed in various businesses and community centers throughout the Town of Lyons. Lyons DIG Days: (Dandy Lyons) pull weeds in LaVern Johnson Park: held the first Friday of each month, at 9:45 a.m.
===ONGOING THIS WEEK===
Tuesday and Thursday – 12:15 p.m. – Boulder County Aging serves a boxed lunch to-go at the Lyons Senior Center (Lyons seniors, ages 65 and up). You must call the day before by 1 p.m. to place an order (303) 441-1415.
Wednesday– 3 to 5 p.m. – Food Pantry for those in need. Drive up to the Lyons Community Church front doors, and someone will come out to your car and help you. Wear a mask and stay in your car. Contact LEAF for more information.
Wednesday – 11 a.m. LYONS WEDNESDAY WALKERS: The Town of Lyons Recreation Department = small group of seniors, 55 years and older, meets at the Senior Center at 11 a.m. and walk to a park and do some light exercises. Contact Lramsey@townoflyons.com

April 23 – 6:30 p.m. Annual SVVSD Teacher of the Year Awards www.TributeLive.org Includes honoree Teachers in Lyons Schools, and more.
Saturday, April 24 – 8:30 a.m. – TREE SEEDING PLANTING: There will be a tree seedling planting of 49 Eastern Red Cedars from the Soil Conservation District happening at the Lyons Cemetery. A representative from the SCD will also be there. Volunteers are invited to join in this Earth ‘Day’ activity, investing trees, beauty, and hope while building community. Bring a trowel, drinking water; wear sturdy shoes, gloves. Mask wearing and social distancing where appropriate.
April 25, 5 – 6 p.m. Wildfire Preparedness Discussion (free). = Lyons Prepared members Smita Skrivanek and Stephen Kane as they share their journey and an informal conversation on wildfire preparedness. We have been attending a comprehensive emergency preparedness program and want to share what we have learned about the steps we can take to prepare our properties for a wildfire.
April 26, 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. – LYONS BLOOD DRIVE. When you donate, you are part of something bigger than yourself. The ultimate pay-it-forward moment. April 29, noon (online) Talk on Elder Abuse and Crime: Boulder County Aging = This presentation will cover topics specific to elder abuse, presenters will share information specific to burglary, car theft, and much more. Similar to the training for mandatory reporters, presenters will review the types of elder abuse and what to look out for when protecting our community’s older adults. Presented by: Chris Merkle is an investigator for the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office. He spent nearly 25 years working for the Longmont Police Department, the last seven years as detective. REGISTER.

April 30 – Free Admission day to Golden Train Museum. These free admission days are an arrangement between the Colorado Railroad Museum and Boulder County.

May – Multiple School Senior Events are coming in May — May 14 – 7 p.m. – Senior Night – The school will be conducting an outdoor ticketed Senior Night event to celebrate our seniors. May 29 Graduation Day.(the car parade is not scheduled yet and needs adults to volunteer to run it).
May 3 – Town Board of Trustee Meeting
May 9 – 10:30 a.m. – 12noon: Lyons Seniors Plein Air Watercolor Class. Supplies provided. Say farewell to our long-time instructor, as she moves out of town. Must RSVP to LRamsey@townoflyons.com (limited space)
