==February 17 thru March 31 – ARBOR DAY Poster Contest: The 2021 Arbor Day Poster Contest is here! This is an artistic competition open to public, private and home-schooled 5th graders across the state of Colorado. The poster contest strives to increase an appreciation and awareness of the important role community trees play in the environment and in our quality of life. The contest theme is: Celebrate Trees in Our Community. For submission guidelines.
==January 15 to March 15- Lyons Library Winter Reading Program: Warm Up to Great Books! The program runs January 15 – March 15, 2021 and features challenges for Kids, and Adults. ==February 8 thru May 15 – HEALTH CARE INSURANCE – Open Enrollment is here … again! The Biden Administration has reopened the health insurance marketplace to offer plans through the Affordable Care Act. Colorado’s Open Enrollment Period starts today, February 8th, and ends on May 15th, 2021. —As a response to the COVID-19 health and financial crises, this Special Enrollment Period will enable anyone not currently enrolled in a healthcare plan to shop and buy plans for 2021 coverage instead of waiting for the Open Enrollment Period for 2022 coverage. Anyone who is uninsured, lost insurance, or on a COBRA plan can purchase insurance on the marketplace. Coloradans can reach out to Connect for Health Colorado
==GARDEN IN A BOX: Month of March “Garden in a Box” – for Lyons residents who get a utility bill. Get $25 off; discounts are limited on a first come, first served basis. Each year, ReSource Central provides different palettes of xeric gardens to Lyons residents. Information on how to order them is available at the website.
PAINT A UTILITY BOX: Call for artists! The Lyons Arts and Humanities Commission (LAHC) seeks artists for the next in our Creative Outlets series. The Creative Outlets program enhances our community and brings beauty to unexpected places, by adding color and interesting designs to utility boxes in Lyons. The utility box is located in LaVern Johnson Park. Compensation for painting the selected utility box is $1,000. Deadline to apply is April 5, 2021.
===ONGOING THIS WEEK===
Monday Night 5 – 5:30 p.m. – FREE Supper. Need a warm, home-cooked meal? The River Church serves free Monday night supper (in a box) to those who need one. Stop by the Walt Self Senior Center to pick it up. (Call the church for more information, or if you are unable to drive to the Senior Center and would like it delivered to your house: (303) 823-6469 You do not need to be a senior; just “in need of a hot meal.”
Tuesday and Thursday – 12:15 p.m. – Boulder County Aging serves a boxed lunch to-go at the Lyons Senior Center (Lyons seniors, ages 65 and up). You must call the day before by 1 p.m. to place an order (303) 441-1415.
Wednesday– 3 to 5 p.m. – Food Pantry for those in need. Drive up to the Lyons Community Church front doors, and someone will come out to your car and help you. Wear a mask and stay in your car. Contact LEAF for more information.
Wednesday – 11 a.m. LYONS WEDNESDAY WALKERS: The Town of Lyons Recreation Department = small group of seniors, 55 years and older, meets at the Senior Center at 11 a.m. and walk to a park and do some light exercises. Contact Lramsey@townoflyons.com

March 5, Friday – date that the first 45,000 Johnson & Johnson vaccine arrives in Colorado.
March 5, Friday, 6:30p.m. – Join Governor Jared Polis on all CO TV stations for a prayer and moment of silence for Coloradans who have died of COVID-19. This is the date that the first case was verified in CO.
March 6, Lyons Community Farm meeting (Vasilena Smith)”We are planning a socially distanced public community meeting on Saturday, March 6th, at 2 p.m., to share and brainstorm about the Lyons Community Farm Project. If you are interested, come join us! Meet at Bohn Park by the restrooms and playground.
March 8, International Women’s Day.
March 8-11 The Middle/High School is collecting donations for LEAF. “Fill your grades bin and win a hat.” high school – pkg snacks, soup, cereal, rice, fruit cups; middle school – toilet paper, laundry products, cleaners, toothpaste, hygiene products.
March 8 – SENIORS: Conversations of the Heart with Patti Murphy of the Boulder County Aging/Nutrition department. 1 to 2 p.m. = “Your Heart is a Beast”

March 12 to 28 – Limited Parking; Lyons HIGH SCHOOL. Please be aware that the LMSHS parking lot will be limited March 12-28, 2021 due to material deliveries for construction of the new auditorium.
March 12 – DEADLINE– The Lyons Community Foundation offers six scholarships ranging between $500 and $2,000 for graduating high school students from the greater Lyons area.
March 15 – DEADLINE – DESIGN an aluminum water can: Through Can’d Aid’s Water + Response program, water is shipping in these cans to communities in need in response to natural and human-made disasters. To date, over 2 million cans have been shipped nationwide. Entry is free and open to EVERYONE. A panel of judges will select the top 5 artists. Then, the general public will pick the grand prize winner
March 14 – Sunday – Daylight Savings Time – “Spring” clock ahead one hour.

March 17: St. Patrick’s Day – Be lucky; don’t congregate in crowds!

March 19 and 20th – drop off your MINI DIORAMAS THE STONE CUP: Join the Picture Portal Project! Everyone is invited! Build a diorama – it can be anything you choose – a collection of favorite things, a miniature room or landscape, a painted scene, whatever you fancy! Then, drop it off at the Stone Cup on Friday or Saturday, March 19 or 20, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. We’ll hang them up and folks can stop by and take a look through the month of April.
March 20 – Colorado’s new “Meat Out Day.” Give up meat for one day.
March 21: National Teenager Day, International Day of Forests, World Down Syndrome Day
March 21 – World Poetry Day as established by UNESCO in 1999 “with the aim of supporting linguistic diversity through poetic expression and increasing the opportunity for endangered languages to be heard.” – Submit your “worldly” poems!
