Emma “Jeanie” Brown, Obituary

Emma Jean “Jeanie” Brown passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021, in Longmont, Colorado, at the age of 81 years old. She was born in the middle of a snow storm on February 28, 1939, in Loma, Colorado, to George Otto Horn and Clara Katherine (Moore) Horn. Jeanie’s parents were pioneer pastors and planted several churches in Colorado. She was the youngest of four children (Mary Ann, Bill and David) When her parents left the ministry, they moved to Longmont where Jeanie grew up. She graduated from Longmont High School in 1957. Her senior class motto was, “I would rather walk with God in the dark than alone in the light.” After high school, she went to work at the Pratt Real Estate Agency making seventy-five cents per hour.
In August of 1958, Jeanie met the love of her life while cruising Main Street in Longmont in her sporty, two-door, 1952 Chevrolet hardtop. Dean W. Brown was driving his 1957 two-door, Chrysler New Yorker and the two were instantly attracted to each other. They dated for four months and, after a two week engagement, they were married on December 12, 1958, at Calvary Temple in Denver, Colorado. Jeanie became a mother to Dean’s first son, Timothy. In January of 1959, Jeanie supported Dean as he became an owner/operator in the household goods moving industry with North American Van Lines of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
They had three children, DeNeen Renee, Darwin Dean and Deena Janae. In 1972, they moved to a beautiful acreage in Lyons where they established a wonderful home for their children and lived for almost 50 years. Together, they provided their children a wonderful childhood. Most people travel when they retire but Dean and Jeanie did the opposite. As a young family they would drive the truck coast-to-coast, and often take their children with them allowing them to see America together.
Jeanie was a stay-at-home mom for several years while the children were growing up. Because family was important to them, they realized that Dean needed to be home more and decided to start their own company, Brown’s Eagle Moving Corporation.
Jeanie joined Dean in their family business where she would take care of the administrative and financial responsibilities and also run packing crews alongside her husband while together giving their children a determination to succeed and a hard work ethic.
Prior to her retirement, Jeanie worked at Valleylab in their finance department and her last five years for the Town of Lyons.
Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Clara, her brother Bill, her brother-in-law, Lenos Scarbrough and her husband Dean. She is survived by her sister Mary Ann, her brother David and his wife Bonnie, her sister-in-law, Betty Lou, Dean’s Son, Timothy (Karen) Brown, her daughter DeNeen Brown, her son, Darwin (Deena) Brown, her daughter, Deena (Brett) Hedington, their grandsons, Cory (Allison) Brown, Jeremy Brown, Levi Brown, granddaughters, Caitlin Brown, Ashlee Brown and Emma Brown and their great grandchildren, Payton, Noah, Mason, Chase, Lucas and Ryder.
Visitation and burial were held Friday, February 19, 2021, at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont; and burial at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Jeanie’s memory to Mountain States Children’s Home.
