Community farm forming in Lyons

A group of Lyons folks has come together with a vision of creating a community farm for our town. We envision it as a place to grow food, community, learning, and joy. The farm will be based on permaculture principles, and we hope for its bounty to be enjoyed by our whole community, and especially those who have the greatest need for fresh food. Besides growing food, we envision it as a place of learning greater self sufficiency skills such as canning food, cooking, working with various produce, growing food on one’s own land, and much more.
So far, our small but mighty group has been working on finding the perfect piece of land for this project, reaching out to permaculture teachers to support the learning that needs to happen for designing the land, researching grants and crowdfunding options, starting a Facebook group, setting up a nonprofit organization, etc. We want to welcome anybody who wants to participate in creating this farm from the ground up to join us! Our working motto is “Give what you can, take what you need!” There is not much to take at this point, but eventually we hope to have a variety of produce, knowledge, community experiences, and empowerment around self-sufficiency to be taken by those who need these things!
If you are interested in participating in this project and helping to design the farm or support its creation in any way, please contact Vasi at 720-442-1368 or email naturalpathways2joy@gmail.com. Thank you to my partners Adrean Kirk and Mia Kissel who have been a vital part of this project so far.
