Richard Michael Roe, 71, of Ninilchik, Alaska and Berthoud, Colorado, died on Sunday, January 17, at his home. He was born on May 4, 1949 in Boulder, Colorado to JoAnn “Judy” Roe and Richard “Dick” Roe. He met the love of his life, Connie Rae Poe, at Lyons High School before graduating in 1967. The two married on July 13, 1968. Rich shared his love for music, dancing, and the outdoors with his wife and children. This sense of adventure led them to the small village of Ninilchik, Alaska in 1986, where Rich worked in the logging industry, road construction and maintenance, and eventually founded and captained Roe’s Alaska Fishing Charter.
Rich was a man who loved deeply and always told his kids, “Family comes first.” Some of his happiest times were spent fishing and hunting with his family. His kids, grandkids, and great-grand-babies were his world. His children have many fond memories of listening to him sing Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison songs while working around the house or in his yard.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Connie; infant daughter Patty Jo; parents, Judy and Dick Roe; sister, Gloria Simpson; parents-in-law Al and Jackie Poe; and brother-in-law, Brian Poe. He is survived by his children, Richard W. Roe and wife Tami; Kerri Roe and husband Fridrik; Tawna Duncan and husband Ron; brother, Robert W. Roe (Tonja Edgington); brother-in-law Wayne R. Simpson; sisters-in-law, Elly Poe and Terri Watson; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and lifelong friend, Rhonda French.
We miss you, Dad, but we are comforted knowing you and Mom are together once again, and forever more.
Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary, Longmont. Graveside services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 25th at the Lyons Cemetery in Lyons. As Rich preferred flannel shirts and jeans, casual attire is welcome.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local homeless shelter.
