Another week gone by in this New Year of 2021. . Some snow, and cold!  Ice Skating is open.

====NEWS===

ICE SKATING: Masks are required when you can’t maintain 6 ft space from another person outside your household.
Ice Skating lessons with former figure-skater and coach Anya Mullen teaching beginner and intermediate levels ice skating on Wednesdays and Saturdays beginning mid-January.  Private  lessons are available. visit www.townoflyons.com/recreation 
 
2021 RESIDENT PARKING PASS.  The parking passes are available to residents of Lyons (Utility billing customers only); one free resident parking pass per household; a second pass may be obtained for $40, and three or more $55.00 each.  Golf cards are considered vehicles and the one free parking pass may be used for a golf cart.
 
Lyons residents may purchase a season parking pass for $80.00 per vehicle. The parking fee for 2021 is $1 per house on weekdays and off season weekends, and $3 per hour on peak season weekends.  Parking fees can be paid at the kiosks located throughout the park with a receipt to placed on the windshield. Parking fees are enforced.  Signup for a 2021 resident parking pass. or at www.townoflyons.com/parkingpass.
 
ITS THE LAW:  Keep sidewalks accessible for everyone.  Snow and ice make traversing sidewalks difficult and dangerous.  This is the law.  Residents must remove snow or ice 24 hours after the last accumulation.  If sidewalks remains hazardous the town may mitigate and charges will be sent to the property owners.
 
NEED ASSISTANCE:  Lyons volunteers may assist those who need help shoveling their sidewalks.  at www.lyonsvolunteers.org

WINTER READING: You should read Franciska’s book “Chopin thru the Window”..(sold at the Lyons Redstone Museum for $25.00 303 823 5271. Happy 98th Birthday to Franciska who now lives in West Virginia with her daughter, Amy Cutts and family.. She is the grandmother of Karen Gregg, Lyons Band instructor. Franciska has related her life when a child, a teenager, meeting George Stein, her life thru the Nazis realm, coming to America, operating the Black Bear Inn in Lyons from 1988-1999, back to Germany, and now settled in Reston, Virginia with her daughter Amy. Very interesting a MUST READ!
 
PENDING BOOK: Dan Kowalski of Pinewood Springs is seeking memories and pictures of what is now the Ralph Price Reservoir. Formerly known as the Professors’ Ranch with many houses, which were covered over with the reservoir. He plans to continue the information written by Ivan Wallin to the present. Old Man Winter Rally in Lyons is scheduled for February 16-18th.  Plan to attend.
 
Free COVID TESTING will continue to be offered on Fridays from 1:30-3:00 at Latter Day Saints Church, 2nd Avenue, Lyons, Co, Holidays.  Many Lyons folks are getting tested, around 175 each Friday. Hundreds of people throughout the State are  being tested, to be sure they don’t give it to their family.  (This gives assurance if you have the Virus infection you can be more careful with those near you;  A lot of people have the  infection and don’t know it, thus it spreads.. “Staying in” seems to be the answer.)
 
VACCINE: MANY  FOLKS ARE RECEIVING SHOTS OF VACCINE DAILY THAT GO ; FIRST TO THOSE 70 AND OLDER;THEN TO  FIRST RESPONDERS AND HOSPITALS.  
YOU HAVE TO CALL IN AND GET IN LINE FOR YOUR VACCINE SHOT;  SOME IN LYONS HAVE HAD THEIR SHOTS. WITH THEIR SECOND SHOT IN-LINE.  CALL BOULDERCOUNTY-COVID19

Senior meals furnished by Boulder County Aging for $3.00 can be picked up at the Senior Center, NOW on Tuesdays and Thursdays; from at 12:15 p.m. Call 303 441 1415 the day ahead. (ages 65 and up)

The River Church is again serving Monday night suppers in boxes from 5 to 5:30 p.m. in front of the Senior Center, for those who need it. Call the church for more information.

COVID-19 NEWS
COVID-19 new cases is still high, but have gone down from 300 to 64 New Cases today with no deaths in Boulder County today with 219 deaths and over 18,538 cases in Boulder County -1862 cases at CU;  Out of Colorado’s 5.7 million people 2,350.000 people have been tested.  Gov. Polis now has allowed all counties who were “Red” to be “Orange” and have some in-door dining with masks and social distancing; He has declared no clusters of groups, and has allowed 2 to be together at CU with the new order of “Stay Home” with over 6075 Cases in Boulder; 5675 in Longmont; 1398 in Lafayette; 771 in Louisville; 352 Superior; 399 in Erie, 66 in Lyons, (ONLY TWO NEW CASES IN LYONS..THE WAY TO GO!) 30 in Nederland, and 1103 in unincorporated Boulder County.  
      
VACCINE notifications program begins with sign ups to be notified when they are able to receive the vaccine  (bit.ly/3nu2ybi); The vaccine will provide 30,000 county residents over 70 years old or older as well as teachers, grocery store employees and other frontline workers, The county has been receiving 500-700 doses each week.

SCHOOL REGULATIONS.  Safety rules apply to all 13 of the SVVSD schools; All safety issues and improvements at the schools are being made: For in-person, when allowed: they have  Increased the air flow; added custodial sanitizing, wear masks, schedule breaks; hand sanitizing, social distancing, fewer students will be in a room and  in lunchroom-1\2 marked on each side, classrooms-desks 6′ apart; stairways-marked right side  both up and down; lunch lines-stay on right side.

Construction on Lyons School auditorium is progressing, included in the 2016 bond Issue. Good News!! (Although it cuts the parking..it will be worth it!)

LYONS PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION meeting – January 11th
 
LYONS PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION met on Monday, January 11th, with discussion on: 1. The completion of Bohn Park Phase 2 which will be ready for ballgames etc this spring. 2. The Lyons Valley River Park needs plant replacement in the spring, a fence and wetland work is needed with railing and stream bank stabilization.; 3. The 2nd Avenue Bridge is being replaced and going well with 2nd Avenue closed until May; stay out of the construction area. 4. People are urged to use the trail along the river 5. The 4th Avenue Pedestrian Bridge is paid for thru FEMA and Safe Schools grant with work on the design. Public hearings will be held. 6.The cost of chiller is being checked into for the Ice Rink (now the rink needs freezing weather), (Ice skating and hockey is really popular). Discussion was also held on whether to try to get the St. Vrain Trail thru east of town and use the money the town has designated for street improvement for matching funds. Grants may be available. The town leases the land at the back to: 1. Blue Mountain Stone  2. Spring, and 3. Clark’s Hardware; the trail has to go thru, as well as over 3 or 4 ditches-they have to get approval from the Ditch companies as well as Northern Colorado.
Pending projects: The area South of the St. Vrain River; A trail connection along the South Ledge Ditch and up to the “L”, Secondary Sports Court; Night Sky Compliance; Pedestrian Connectivity, Budget & long-term maintenance review, Water Rescue Stations (in 2021 budget to be along the river in case of emergency); PRC volunteering-to clean up after Holidays, summer and during summer. The next meeting Feb 8- 6pm.

TOWN BOARD: January 19. 2021
 
 The Lyons Town Board  will meet  on Zoom Monday evening Feb 1st, with Workshop at 5:30 and meeting at 7:00pm.
Sheriff Crist will be attending the State hearing on The Den;  Thanks to the Town of Lyons for the Cares grants amounting to $197,000.to 20 businesses and 2 non-profits.. this week, ranging from $989.00 to $10,000. A great help to the town’s economy!  There will be updates on water utility; wastewater under the  administrators report on Lyons  Redstone Review Article; Lyons Love Campaign; National  Parks Planner Magazine; Revolving loan fund, Utility bill with Museum-Driveway.
The Ordnance on Vehicle Impoundment, Parking and Abandoned Vehicle and Property Enforcement was voted to allow small RV’s, and Water vehicles if under 20 feet, not including the tongue to park on the driveway or in front.  The town is now looking for parking space for big R-V’s.  A resolution was discussed expressing support for improved Hike and Bike Features along reconstructed State Highway 7;  Work is going forward on the new 2nd Avenue Bridge with with Rocksol Consulting Group for Construction and  Interwest Consulting Group for Consulting Services for Professional Civil Engineering;  A Resolution of the Town ratifying professional services with Anderson Consulting Engineers for the Design for the St,. Vrain Creek Recovery Project; A Resolution of the Town approving a Development Plan Agreement for Summit Housing passed, giving the town 16-24 single family units, and 17 larger, The developer stated they would see to the safety of those where the cliffside has shored off.       Voted on Lake McIntosh Water Shares Request (to develop 4th & Main Street into businesses and apartments) was passed saving them $100,000.  Plans for redoing the corner businesses with the first floor into businesses and adding 7 rental units on the 2nd floor. Discussion on using funds designated for Lyons Streets for matching funds to get grants for the 36\66 Corridor Trail; and discussed rule for Virtual meetings.         
UPCOMING:  Check fire hydrants as to water pressure; the water problems at Ed Bruder’s home; kids Hike & Bike Trail; Dr Cog funding, Student on Town Board, form a Cemex committee and a  committee on the  Planet Bluegrass contract; Check trail by Cemetery, Honeywell Legal action, Historic Preservation Committee to meet with Planning Commission.

MUSEUM NEWS+THE LYONS REDSTONE MUSEUM 
Thanks to those who have donated to the Museum, used to pay the year’s utilities, etc.  THE LYONS MUSEUM is sending out their yearly brochures held up by the COVID-as a  Season’s  greeting and update of the Lyons Redstone Museum.  Thanks to Baiba Lennard for the brochure-telling about the Museum, their projects, needing money due to the COVID and No Sales, etc..  The Museum  is still open virtually (if you are here from afar and need to make research call 303 823 5925 and we will make arrangements to let you in.  Someone will be there  on most Wednesdays (call 303 823 5271) The staff will be  working on  scrapbooks, scanning, and Past Perfect, long-needed-to-do jobs; awaiting until people will feel safe. MUSEUM NEWS+ Thanks to Jean Pela for giving the Museum some valuable artifact: A Certificate of the first Lyons Boy Scout Troop #61 dated October 31,1940, with Troop Committee:  Fred Dirkes, Chairman (Jean’s father) and John E. Lall. J. H. Havens Scout Master and W. W. Downie-Assistant Scoutmaster; (Boy Scouts started in June 15, 1916); a clock from the Lyons 1950 1st grade class, which was in the same room with the 2nd grade, located in the 1881 Schoolhouse, now the Museum) which was given to Jerry Peila by Lyman Sanford, who was then custodian; and a hitching post found by in Noland by Lu Peila, father of Jerry Peila.  (These items will be displayed at the Lyons Redstone Museum)

LaVern Johnson has been writing Lyons Recorder's "About Town" social news column every week since October, 1983. LaVern became the president of the Lyons Historical Society two years after the group started in 1975, and became the Director of the Lyons Redstone Museum. She and her husband founded Red Rocks Ramblers Square Dance, Lyons, in 1958 to 2019. She has been on many Town of Lyons committees and boards and on campaigns to save things important to a quality life in Lyons. Her family were early farmer pioneers in Lyons; her parents moving here in 1928.
