===ONGOING EVENTS over a number of days===

January 6 – 27 Deadline: Eligible small businesses in Boulder and Larimer County that have been impacted by COVID-19 restrictions might be eligible for a one-time relief paycheck protection  program (PPP) for their business. See our article for facts and links and deadlines.

January 14 thru 21 – Boulder County Aging Classes: For questions, bcaaa@bouldercounty.org — https://www.bouldercounty.org/families/seniors/services/age-well/ == or go to our SENIOR NEWS article this month.

January 15 to March 15- sign up now – Lyons Library Winter Reading Program: Warm Up to Great Books! The program runs January 15 – March 15, 2021 and features challenges for Kids, and Adults. Simply log your reading and activities and unlock badges to earn tickets for prize drawings. Register at:  https://lyons.colibraries.org/2021-winter-reading-program/

NOTE: Thursday LEAF “Mental Wellness” ZOOM sessions have been put on hold for a few weeks, thru February.

===THIS WEEK===

January 25 – FREE Supper will be served between 5-5:30 p.m. Need a warm, home-cooked meal? The River Church serves free Monday night supper (in a box) to those who need one. Stop by the Walt Self Senior Center to pick it up. (Call the church for more information, or if you are unable to drive to the Senior Center and would like it delivered to your house:  (303) 823-6469 You do not need to be a senior; just “in need of a hot meal.”)

January 26 and 28 – Tuesday and Thursday – Boulder County Aging serves a boxed lunch to-go at the Senior Center (Lyons seniors, ages 65 and up). You must call the day before by 1 p.m. to place an order (303) 441-1415.

January 27 , Wednesday– 3 to 5 p.m. – Food Pantry for those in need. Drive up to the Lyons Community Church front doors, and someone will come out and help you. Wear a mask and stay in your car.

January 27, Wednesday ––LYONS WEDNESDAY WALKERS: The Town of Lyons Recreation Department = small group of seniors, 55 years and older, meets at the Senior Center at 11 a.m. and walk to a park and do some light exercises

January 26, 3 – 4 p.m. Stop the Hair-Pulling and Try This Instead: Stress Reduction during COVID. (free online class) Let’s get together and talk about ways we can reduce our stress levels during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Together, we can revisit old classics and introduce one another to new ideas. (Put on by Mental Health Partners)

January 27, Noon to 1 p.m. online: Boulder County Aging class: “Change and Uncertainty: That’s Caregiving!” — Description: When dealing with a serious, chronic, and/or terminal disease, caregivers and care receivers can be overwhelmed by a never-ending series of changes. As a result, many people experience change fatigue rooted in fear, anxiety, and uncertainty. So, what can we do to navigate this journey of caregiving effectively? First, understand the process of change. Second, embrace the fact that self-care is an essential daily practice. Third, recognize what is within your control and what is not. And finally, rely on your resilience, response, and ritual to proactively deal with change and uncertainty.

February 3, Noon to 1p.m. online: Boulder County Aging class: “Ending Ageism Together”

February 3, 6:30pm – Lyons Library –  Word Wednesday, a great opportunity to meet other writers and get constructive feedback on your writing projects in a supportive environment. Open to all genres and levels. Register to receive Zoom link.

February 6, online, Mindful Mark Making class. Limited to 6 people. Lyons Library.

February 11 – 7 p.m. Trivia Night returns to the Lyons Library. 

February 11 – “Beyond Traditional Therapy” online class, by Mental Health Partners)

February 12 – 10 a.m. – 2:15 p.m., next Blood Drive; coming to Lyons for the 2nd time (thanks to Patty Ayala, Lyons coordinator) Register:  https://donors.vitalant.org/dwp/portal/dwa

February 16 to 18 –Old Man Winter (bike) Rally in Lyons.  More info to come.
