Cookie Monster Bin for donations – Lyons Town Hall. Mon-Fri 8:00a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Donate toiletries, gift cards or funds, help LEAF provide hope and a spirit of community. This drop off bin will be available during December, and may be extended. (303) 823-6622.

There will be no Christmas Eve Mass at the Lyons Catholic Church due to Covid.

VACCINE! HELP IS ON THE WAY.

..Colorado has received 975 shots of vaccine; first in Fort Collins, with more coming each day. First responders and those in Care Centers and Children’s Hospitals are first, followed by those at-risk.. Thanks to the Pfizer and Company for saving the world with this vaccine. Such wonderful news! 300,000 have died with this Virus with another 1090,9000 expected to die by January.. The vaccine will consist of two shots three weeks apart. We all are susceptible of getting it. Our Thanks to those working hard to save us.. We may get our shots in April, but will have to wear our masks and social distance much longer.

Free COVID TESTING each Friday from 1:30-3:00 p.m. at Latter Day Saints Church, 2nd Avenue, Lyons, Co. Many Lyons folks are getting tested, around 175 each Friday. Hundreds of people throughout the State are being tested, to be sure you don’t give it to their family. We thank you for that. Check with the fire department to see if they will be there. This week is the last listed day.

The fires up Poudre Canyon and on North burned 200,000 acres. Over 400 structures were burned. Lots of donations are needed.

GRANT: (CARES ACT) Twenty one Lyons businesses applied for a CARES ACT grant to help with their local business. Main Street manager Brianna Hoyt has been hired to help local businesses fill out forms for the grants. This CARES Act funding can be used for businesses revenue losses. the town has been allocated $200,000 to help the town businesses. with $210,000 applied for. LYONS PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION meeting – Dec. 14th.

LYONS PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION met on Monday Dec. 14th. Mark Browning is the Town’s Board Liaison. Issues are: Wires and limbs are down on the Martin property are very dangerous, and full of dead wood and needs fire mitigation. The area along the river on the South side of the LaVern Johnson Park needs taken care of by the County and the town. We are happy to announce that Bohn Park Phase 2 is finished except a few minor items being done by the subcontractors, as well as fencing and landscaping. The Lyons Valley River Park is mostly completed with plant replacement in the spring, a fence and wetland work is needed. Railing stabilization and stream bank stabilization is happening; The 2nd Avenue Bridge will be replaced with 2nd Avenue closed until May; stay out of the construction area.

Tracy Saunders, Flood Discovery employee, announced that the 4th Avenue Pedestrain Bridge is paid for thru FEMA and Safe Schools grant with design and work to begin soon; Discussion was held on Disc Golf, the cost of an ice maker for the Ice Rink; however may not be affordable. a trail connection along the South Ledge Ditch and up to the “L” and projects for 2021 with long-term goals and 2021 priorities;

The next Parks and Recreation Commission meeting is Jan. 11th at 6:00pm on Zoom.

Thanks to the town for decorating the town and Sandstone park.

The Kurt Carlson Skateboard sign has been devised with all rules and regulations involving insurance and law enforcement; A second sign will be made posting the hours for age groups, programs, and classes.

TOWN BOARD:

LYONS DEN: TOWN BOARD:: A protest of about 30 to 40 Lyons Den fans appeared at the Lyons Den on Sunday afternoon with signs protesting the rescinding of the Den’s liquor license. The Town Board has been praised as well as cussed for their actions. However the virus cases are still surging. There is a campaign asking the governor to permit restaurants to serve inside with social distancing if they follow the rules.

The Lyons Town Board voted to allow the Farmette to build a pole barn to take place of their events tent.

Construction to replace the 2nd Avenue Bridge has begun. The Bridge and 2nd Avenue will be closed until May while they replace the bridge. Folks are to drive over McConnell Bridge; or walk on the trail along the Waste lot to get there.

The LYONS TOWN BOARD meeting will meet this Monday, Dec. 21st, and discuss The Lyons Den Business license – whether to renew it or rescind it permanently, as they said he would not require their customers to abide by the governor’s rules. Next meetings are Dec. 21 and Jan. 4th

OBITUARY: former Lyons resident, Donna Williams, died in Longmont of COVID last week. Graveside services were held on were held with burial in the Mountain View Cemetery. She was the sister of Karen (???) Thompson, a daughter of Alice Ruth Jones and the granddaughter of Homer and Effie Inman, who lived on the Vick Olson property. She graduated with the class of 1969, which included: Dennis Bashor, Jack Brackett, Nelda Cook, Farren Elwood, John French, Katleen Gereaux, Wallace Goranson, Douglas Harkalsi, Jana Holtwick, Colleen Leiding, Dennis Morgan, David Orback, Colleen Ramsey, Jerry Ribblem Wm Simpson, Suylvia Sisk, Sharon Vinson, and Sanford Williams. Her sister notes: “Donna had a very compassionate and hilariously funny soul that peaked out and laughed at all the drama of her life. She was the queen, much beloved by all who knew her.” We express our Sympathy.
