Lyons celebrated the December Holidays with lights on Main Street, and in Sandstone Park, installed by the Town. A number of residents decorated their homes, with High Street, east of the elementary school, currently having the most lights.
For 2020, the Town of Lyons did not put on a Holiday Lights Parade, nor did fireworks, due to problems that would probably come up with social distancing, due to COVID-19. But they marked off parking spaces on High Street, and encouraged local residents and stores to create floats or scenarios of Holiday or Christmas images on the evening of December 5th.
It included George’s Towing; the Wechsler Family has participated in the parade for years, but missed last year due to a generator problem. They arrived on time for the “Frozen Parade,” along with Spirt Hound Distillery, whose float was a Halloween cemetery motif, which was not used in October due to the Town’s Halloween parade also being cancelled.
The magical trailer with Santa on board, and live Christmas music, went up and down dozens of streets in Lyons, from about 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Then the Frozen Parade started at 6 p.m. The idea was to have the floats and trailers frozen in a parking spot along High Street, and residents could drive by in a caravan and check them out.
