Hiking in October in all kinds of weather

St Vrain Mountain Trail straddles the border between the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area (south) and Rocky Mountain National Park (north), and is not far from Allenspark. Parts of  this trail are considered moderate and other parts are strenuous, especially once you reach tree line. Dogs are allowed on leash, but once you cross Rocky Mt National Park, dogs are not allowed. It is a highly rated trail. It is not recommended for winter hiking. Indian Peaks Wilderness offers stunning views of the rocky peaks of Wild Basin. The summit offers 360-degree panoramic views of a wildflower-laden wilderness.
