This Week’s Flash Bits of News! Including the date it’s happening:
September 1 – The newest version of the Lyons Recorder begins publication!
September 25 – A federal judge ordered late Thursday that the Census Bureau extend counting for another month. It also cancels out the previously changed date for “completion of counting data” from December 31 back to the original April 30. This will allow employees time to go back and find missing households.
September 28 – Connect for Colorado health plan is updating their Okta System and is sending out emails for all current or prospective customers to change their email password. Customer Service Center: 855-752-6749. This is a legitimate request and not phishing. == If you’ve recently experienced a job loss or loss of income, you might qualify for a 60-day Special Enrollment period, which will allow you to sign up for a new health insurance plan or to change your current plan now. Visit the When Can I Buy Insurance page under Get Started to learn more. The next Open Enrollment Period will begin on November 1, 2020 for coverage that starts January 1, 2021.
September 30 – Operations Update. The Cameron Peak fire is at 125,006 acres and 22% containment.
October 1 – Day of the Dead: Despite the coronavirus, Colorado’s largest Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration will happen this year Longmont. It begins Thursday, October 1 with a virtual opening reception for an exhibit at the Longmont Museum, and culminates Sunday, November 1, 2020 with a livestream virtual Family Fiesta. All month there will be exhibits, Altar Topurs, Catrina painting, dances, Sugar Skull crafts, and more at various locations.
October 1 – Free school lunches: Just a friendly reminder that lunch is available for FREE daily at Lyons Middle/Senior High School for any kids ages 1 to 18 years, in need. They do not have to be St. Vrain School District (SVVSD) students, and no ID needs to be shown. Pickup is in the bus lane, Monday to Friday, from 11a.m. to 12:30p.m.
October 1 – Snake season will be soon. They are great for rodent control but if you don’t want one around, just a reminder: Donna Nespoli and her husband humanely relocate rattlers and other snakes for free. Text her at (303) 618-0357. (Removal from Lyons area only)

October 1-31 — Lyons Vet annual Pet Costume Contest. Send in your photos; winners announced November 1st. Text a photo of your pet in their costume to 303-823-6767 or email a photo of your pet in their costume to lyonsvet@lyonsvetclinic.com
October 2 — 4 p.m. – Last regular game for Lyons Girls Softball Team (vs. Valley; senior recognition). Wear white. They are top contenders to go to state playoffs. COVID-19 restrictions apply. They will play district playoffs in Aurora. (See About Town for more details) They also played Wednesday September 30 a Home Game. They are now practicing on the newly opened Lyons ballfield.
October 5 – 7 p.m. Town Board of Trustees Meeting (on Zoom). The virtual Board of Trustees and PCDC meetings will still be recorded and uploaded to their respective meeting date, under the “Sessions” section, approximately two days after the meeting.
October 8 – CO Ballots mailed out.
