If you build it, they will come. JR Gordon, Pinewood Springs, is known as the local Hummingbird Whisperer. One of his projects was making a helmet out of his eyeglasses that contained three hummingbird plastic flower feeders. He will wait quietly and patiently till they arrive. But, eventually, even he can’t help but smile! Photographs and videos of Gordon and his birds have been seen as far away as a newspaper in the United Kingdom.
“I’ve been feeding them for six years,” said Gordon. “I’m at the JR Lazy G Ranch, and my father had been feeding them here for decades before I moved in after his passing. I put out four to five feeders, and have counted as many as 30 birds at a time feeding together.” Hummingbirds need to eat half their body weight every day due to their extremely fast metabolism.
