On Friday, a group of mostly young people, organized by Grace Farrell, demonstrated on Main Street, holding signs protesting the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, and supporting Black Lives Matter. They were cheered on by numerous passing drivers honking their horns and flashing peace signs, raised fists, and thumbs up. The demonstration worked both sides of Main Street and Fourth Avenue, as well as in front of the St. Vrain Market.
Grace, who is entering ninth grade this fall, said the idea came to her and a few friends who sent out invitations to a number of acquaintances that morning encouraging them to participate. She said the passing drivers were mostly supportive or neutral.
