Who’s open, and with what restrictions

Governor Jared Polis issued an order to close restaurants for on-premises dining on March 17, and has now issued an order that allows them to reopen, effective May 27.

For the last two months, restaurants have only been allowed to offer takeout or delivery meals. This is a list of restaurants and retail businesses that have storefronts in Lyons, indicating which ones are open, closed, or takeout only, as of May 27.

New safety guidelines require workers to wear masks, and require customers to wear them when not eating. Tables must be spaced at least six feet apart, and sanitized between parties. Reusable or shared menus and condiments are not allowed. Restaurants can serve either up to 50 percent capacity or 50 people, whichever is fewer. Takeout orders must have their own designated area. Stringent cleaning rules must be followed. The guidelines say outdoor dining service is encouraged, but restaurants will need to obtain proper permits to expand patio seating.

Restaurants are also encouraged to provide a sign-in sheet to notify people if there is a COVID-19 outbreak at the establishment. Bars do not fall under these guidelines, and must remain closed until further notice.

The Lyons Board of Trustees passed an amendment to the emergency resolution detailing some additional requirements for businesses and patrons. It is now required that all employees and patrons wear masks instead of strongly encouraged. It is also required that businesses display signs at each entrance. Children under 12 and those whose medical conditions preclude it and do not have to wear masks, as well as some other exemptions listed. The Town will be helping with signage and is working on sourcing PPE.

A couple of Lyons restaurant owners said that they will wait until their customers and employees feel it is safe enough to open. Some have said that they might extend their hours and days later in June, and that they will watch what happens at other restaurants in town.

Special Events: The Fork will have live music Friday, May 29 at 7 p.m. on the patio. The Let it Bee honey store hopes to have an event Sunday, June 7, possibly with costumes, wild feed tastings, an herb tour, and more. It will be a combination of a Zoom meeting and live casual events on the site. The Lyons Den, is hosting live music and an artisan fair Saturday, May 30, from 3 to 7 p.m.

Smokin' Dave's BBQ
Tim and Robin Hastings, from Eagle Ridge in Lyons, were the first people to enjoy the outside patio dining at the newly re-opened Smokin’ Dave’s BBQ & Taphouse. There are four tables outside and 50 percent capacity offered inside. Open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Also open for takeout.
LaMariposa, Lyons
LaMariposa has been doing takeout for several weeks, and its margaritas to go have been very popular. Outside seating opens today, with indoor seating beginning on Monday.
Julie’s Thai Kitchen has been open for takeout for a few weeks, with a full menu, and does not anticipate opening their dining room soon. Julie’s will be watching other businesses in town before doing so. The restaurant is open for takeout from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Pizza 66 Pub and Pizzeria hopes to open for weekends by the second week of June from 12 noon to 8 p.m. They first need to get some remodeling work done on their patio and consult with their employees about safety considerations. Call them to confirm the hours. They will cautiously expand to more days as the month progresses. Takeout orders are available from 5 to 8 p.m. Pay online (closed Mondays) and indicate the time you want to pick up your meal.
Dairy Bar, Lyons
The Dairy Bar never closed its business due to the virus. The owners have removed the outside tables, and have not opened the indoor dining area. Dairy Bar has hot grilled items and quality ice cream. The stand is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Lyons Den, Lyons
The Lyons Den was one of the first to open as of Wednesday, May 27, with a capacity of up to 50 people combined for the inside and the large sandstone patio. Open Tuesday to Thursday 3 to 9 p.m., Friday 3 to 11 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Closed Mondays.
The Fork recently opened with a limited menu for takeout and quickly moved to dining this past Thursday on its outdoor patio. The Fork is open Thursday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Pre-order your Sunday donuts, and come in to enjoy the revived offering of breakfast mimosas. Tonight at 7 p.m. there will be two musicians to brighten up the lives of isolated music lovers in Lyons. The Fork hopes to have live music every Friday night in June, and will consider opening up to a full-week schedule, depending on how well business goes.
Oskar Blues
Oskar Blues opened a couple of weeks ago with a two-day fundraiser for their charitable foundation Can’d Aid. Patrons can order online or walk up to their Main Street patio window to place their order, from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
MoJo Taqueria,Lyons
Mojo Taqueria is currently open for takeout, seven days, from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be a gradual opening over the month of June.
Red Canyon Art, Lyons
Lyons art and gift shops are open, with strict hygiene and capacity rules enforced. This includes Red Canyon Art, Western Stars Gallery, Lyons ReRuns, and Brian Bradley Art. The Lyons Quilting shop is open by appointment.
The Barking Dog and Stone Cup cafes will offer takeout only in June, with limited hours. Redstone Liquor has restarted its drive-up window service only; Lumber Liquor has indoor shopping and drive-up service, seven days; Spirit Hound has takeout service, but is looking into the rules so it can open for service indoors; Bud Depot has online ordering; and Hempsual is open, with live plants for sale.
St. Vrain Market, Redstone Cyclery
Both the St. Vrain Market and Redstone Cyclery are considered essential businesses, and have been open during the months of mandated closures. The market is open seven days, and the bike shop is closed on Mondays.
Customers at St. Vrain Market are required to wear face masks and are asked to handle items as infrequently as possible. Customers can use the store’s two outdoor patios, which two tourists from Denver and Texas enjoyed on Wednesday.
Redstone Cyclery’s owner Dave Chase says he always knew bikes were a necessity, and it was nice to get confirmation from the state. The increase in popularity of bikes during the isolation period has caused some parts and bikes to be out of stock nationally.
