About town with LaVern Johnson
April 1 was Census Day. If you did not get a census notice on your door go to Census 1-844-330-2020. You should count all persons living in your household as of April 1. Everyone with a regular mailing address should have gotten a notice, but not those with a post office box who need to go to 2020census.gov.
CORONA VIRUS – Worldwide, all to stay home, wash hands, stay six feet away from each other, don’t expose anyone, spray papers, counters, door and car knobs, etc. The millions throughout the world are trying to make it. As of this evening (March 30), there have been 48 deaths in Colorado and 326 hospitalized. We must keep our distance. We may have been exposed to the virus before we even knew its danger; however 14 days have gone by, and so far all is well. We are staying home, and we hope everyone is.
Dr. Karen Gregg, band teacher is promoting putting our Christmas lights back on to signify there is hope. Thanks, Karen. There is no school, no graduations, no prom. Scholarships will be announced, as well as various awards.
Thanks to all restaurants, stores, the Town of Lyons, and landlords who will not be foreclosing or shutting off the utilities during this trying time. We are all in this together and have to help each other.
Watch Town of Lyons meetings using Zoom, a free app through your phone or computer.
Town election is Tuesday, April 7. All registered voters have received a mail-in ballot, and should have mailed in their ballot or deposit it in the Town Hall slot before 7pm on April 7. You will vote for one for Mayor-Nicholas Angelo or Jacquelyn Farrell; and for six for the Board Of Trustees: Robert Brakenridge, Mark Browning, Michael Karavas, Greg Lowell, Wendy Miller, Hollie Rogin, and Kenyon Waugh. You will also vote on the single hauler proposal.
Tid bits:
Gary McCrumb states he was able to walk to the labyrinth and back to his house on Park–about a half of a mile–without using crutches or a cane. Gary was hit by a car on his motorcycle some months ago and is just now coming back to health. Glad to hear that, Gary.
Folks have been missing the bagpipe music on Sunday mornings.
THANKS TO ALL: The St. Vrain Market for discount and delivery (give them a call 823 5225); the restaurants–order for pickup. Thanks to LEAF food bank, Meals on Wheels. There are a lot of Lyons folks being taken care of.
Scammers – We are warned to be aware of scammers-make sure your donation is going to the right place; just say “no” or hang up.
Good Luck to Sharon Kelling, who has sold her home on Fourth Avenue and is moving to Florida where three of her children and several grandchildren live. She has been wintering in Florida but will now live there permanently. We will miss you, Sharon.
