Lyons businesses help out during pandemic

Spirit Hound Distillery and Green Goo, two local businesses, have teamed up to help out during the Covid-19 pandemic. With hand sanitizer in short supply for the past few weeks, the distillery has produced and bottled a 100% ethyl alcohol grain-neutral spirit, perfect for use as a hand sanitizer.

Body care company Green Goo donated the four-ounce spray bottles. Approximately 100 gallons of the disinfectant were bottled, with priority given to first responders, medical personnel, public servants, and nursing homes.

Spirit Hound was fairly new to Lyons when the flood of September 2013 hit, pushing water and a few feet of mud into the business. “Here we go again. After going through the Colorado Front Range floods of 2013, we quickly understood the need, and are extremely proud to have the Spirit Hound team, and the Lyons community, rally to respond and make an impact quickly,” said Craig Engelhorn, head distiller.

Engelhorn also noted, “We have ingredients to make another 200 gallons of sanitizer, and plan to continue to make the spray as long as there is a need. As we try to make sense of the chaotic times, we’re proud to be part of serving our community.”

The bottles of sanitizer are available while supplies last at Spirit Hound and the St. Vrain Market.
