Open seat on the Lyons Housing & Human Services Commission
The Lyons Housing & Human Services Commission has a vacant seat and needs your help.
The mission of the Housing & Human Services Commission, as established in the Lyons Recovery Action Plan, is to provide coordination and communication with various private, non-profit, and county entities in an effort to assess and fill the gaps in human service provision and identify unmet needs in the Lyons and greater Lyons (80540 ZIP code) area.
Joining a board or commission is a great way to become involved and help shape the decisions made in our community. The Housing & Human Services Commission is one of several citizen advisory boards and commissions that advise the Lyons Board of Trustees. You can volunteer on the commission even if you live in the surrounding 80540 areas outside of town limits.

Examples of recent work the commission advised on and helped shape include a resource guide of all area human services, a medical equipment loan closet, a vulnerable resident list for emergencies, senior lunch programs (including home delivery) and other social events, access to a county-wide program of all-inclusive care for the elderly, and programming for youth in collaboration with schools and other partners.
High-priority issues the commission is working on now include access to mental health and physical health resources in town, subsidized affordable housing for people with working class, disabled, or retired incomes (both rentals and homeownership models), programs that help seniors stay in their homes or share with roommates, a Boulder County volunteer driver program, and ways for all residents of the Lyons community to feel included.
The Lyons Housing & Human Services Commission meets the second Tuesday of every month at Lyons Town Hall from 3:30-5 p.m. UPDATE: Meeting times were changed to the third Wednesday of each month from 11:30am-1pm. During the time of COVID-19, the commission will be meeting on web conferences set up by the town. Information will be included in upcoming agendas.
